Why is the web app more feature rich than the mobile app?

is the mobile app (specifically iPadOS) limited in a way the web app is not? If so how?

Or are the apparent differences just a result of where developers have chosen to focus their resources?

Different apps for different needs.
Mobile app orginated many years ago(and has been improved over time). Web app is relatively new in comparision.
Mobile app has the screen size of phone users in view in partiular while the web app is focused on devices which offer a much larger screen.

Why is the web app more feature rich than the mobile app?

The mobile app is not intended to be a replacement for the desktop app. On the other hand, the web app IS intended to (eventually) be a replacement for users who don't have access to the desktop app. Such uses include:

1. Those who are using linux or a chrome book and can't run the desktop app (windows/Mac).

2. Users, such as students, who need access to their library on a non-personal computer (i.e. at the library).

I really hope they improve the mobile app so that it is almost the same as the web app.
