I am intersted in beta testing.
I have entered "set update channel to beta" (as per the instruction) in the command box but 'nothing' happened. Obviously more is needed.
Further directions will be much appreciated. Thanks.

You are probably on the most recent Gold release '8.16.0.0002 RC1', which was released on the Sep 1. As such, there is no actual beta out at the moment for that channel to update to. Once there is, it should download the beta, or if you have auto-download set to no, you can force an update by typing 'update now' in the Go box.
https://wiki.logos.com/The_Logos_8_Beta_Program lists the current cycle, and you can see that there is currently no beta.
Thanks for the clarification. I am on 8.16.0.0002 but not RC1.
I am using a Mac and in regard to beta testing I will set up a separate account (on the same computer) under a different email address. I am interested in Logos 9. To accomplish this, do I need to have Logos 8 installed or can 9 be installed directly?
The general beta cycles do not yet include Logos 9.

A separate Faithlife account (email address) is not the most productive way because of the cost involved in building an adequate Library and loss of the documents you have created. Use the same Faithlife account and install as much of those resources as your disk space allows i.e. resources you consider essential + resources that are required to populate Guides and Workflows.
Look to announcements in this (Desktop Beta) forum to know that a beta is available for testing. Logos 9 will be tested privately before being released, and will enter the normal beta test cycle thereafter.
