Questions about Search Results (Newbie from WS)
I'm a newbie, learning Logos (formerly a WS user):
In Streams in the Desert, the devotional for today was written by Will Hunt. As a Charismatic, his last paragraph grabbed my attention: "When the apostles received the baptism with the Holy Ghost they did not rent the upper room and stay there to hold holiness meetings, but went everywhere preaching the gospel."
Lettie B. Cowman, Streams in the Desert (Los Angeles, CA: The Oriental Missionary Society, 1925), 278.
I've not ever heard of Will Hunt, but wanted to know more. So I first looked at Wikipedia, but wasn't sure this was the same fellow. So I did my FIRST search in Logos.
Interestingly, it found a "hit" from the bookstore, "Purity, Power, and Pentecostal Light..." and even listed quotes. SO COOL!
But below that are two entries in an article from Perfectionist Persuasion: The Holiness Movement and American...
When I open that, it says I don't have license to this resource but I can buy it (at a whopping $33.83). Then, it says it's New in Paperback.
Questions:
1. Is this resource a paperback book as opposed to a Logos (digital) resource?
2. Was there a better way to search for Will Hunt within Logos than doing a search using the Basic tab?
3. I already have quite a library (from WS) with a total of 477 resources. But was my search still somewhat limited by not having the right books or encyclopedias? (Note: I'm still wondering what is contained in the datasets that came with my Basic version of Logos and if this has anything to do with Factbook and whatever resource Logos is searching beyond my own library.)
Thanks for your replies. I'm in learning-mode, so whatever you share will be welcome.

Hi Sharon - and welcome to Logos and these forums

I didn't get that result - searching for "Will Hunt". What exact search did you use?

That's a great way of doing it

Yes, the more resources you have the more hits you are likely to see

Factbook will pull together resources from your library and present the results to you in an easily-accessible form
And some of the information it does return does depend on which datasets you have
Hope this helps a little, Graham

Sorry, should have been "Will Huff", not Hunt. I typed without double-checking.

Greetings Sharon
I repeated the searches you did.
The only thing I can add is that the Faithlife price seems to compare well with that of Amazon 😉

No. I think Faithlife simply reproduced what was on the first page of the book itself, where the publisher was announcing a paperback version.

Sharon, congratulations! You are doing great in adapting to a new user interface, keep up the good work.
In order to avoid typos (that we ALL do at one time or another) you can select a name and search right within the resource. If you highlight a name you should get a pop-up that looks similar to:
from here you can click "search" and may get results (based upon your library) similar to this:
If you right-click on the name you highlight, you will get options similar to this:
clicking the Search everything option may give you results from other datasets similar to this:
Again, you are doing GREAT! These are just 2 shortcuts to avoid typos.

Welcome [:D]
Format is Digital => https://ebooks.faithlife.com/product/120822 (usable in Logos and/or Verbum) while description supplied by publisher mentions Paperback and previous Cloth edition.
Couple Search ideas:
- Filter Library for author (found my library has two Huffman resources)
- Add phrase variation for searching: "Will Huff" OR "Huff, Will" (Index and Bibliographic entries can have Last Name, First)
Keep Smiling [:)]

You are correct...for the print version. I almost always buy a digital copy (Kindle/eBook), and it's $9.99. But then...you had no way of knowing that, did you? [;)]

Obviously, I haven't figured out how to reply to individuals here in the Forum. Anyway, thanks EVERYONE. You have all been very encouraging and helpful. I will make it a new habit to right-click to initiate a search. Excellent suggestion.

The heart of this question was already answered, but for some clarification...
”Faithlife e-books“ (aka “FLEB” titles) are “bare bones” (lesser quality) books than “Logos edition“ Resources. They are also sold under a different kind of agreement with the publishers. The pricing of those titles is under greater control by the publishers, and they aren’t “value added” with manual tagging.
The “bare bones” extends to that website where the product description comes from an automated feed from the publishers. You will see funny things like “dvd included” and my personal favorite “ten pack bundle.” none of those things are true. We can bring them to the attention of Faithlife and they will correct it when possible, but it is an endless endeavor.
The two good things about FLEB:
1) sometimes there are great deals. Books can be much cheaper than in Logos. I use an ebook tracking program to notify me of sales.
2) many of these titles would not be available to us in our libraries if not in this format. Some publishers don’t allow Faithlife to make Logos edition Resources of their works, so it is this or nothing. I’ll take it.macOS, iOS & iPadOS |Logs| Install
