Opens the wrong Bible

I have a question. Usually, I am able to figure this stuff out but Logos 8 has me stumped.

Lets say that I have open

"The Daily Reader for Contemplative Living" From Keating ( which I do!)

In this book, there are scripture references to click on and view, for example:

Numbers 6:25 NAB

1 Timothy 6:16 NJB

1 Timothy 6:16 NASB

You will notice that throughout the daily reader, many different Bible versions are used, How do I tell logos 8 to open the Bible version that is used? Every time I click on a link, no matter what version it uses, NIV is the Bible that opens! If a commentary suggests KJV, If I click on it, NIV comes up. I used to be able to do this but it seems like it does not work anymore?

In Logos, links can either be to a particular book or to a datatype. If the link in the Logos resource is to a datatype (like Bible) it will link to the resource that has the highest priority for that datatype. In your case, it sounds like you told Logos at some point that you prefer the NIV.

To get the behavior you are asking for, the commentary would need to be tagged to open a particular resource, and not just your favorite bible. It is possible to do have links like this in books, although there are sometimes problems as well, especially since many major translations exist in many different sub-variants because they have been revised of the years or have different rights in different nations. To use your examples, I have the NAB in my library - but it appears to no longer be sold since NABRE came out. In the verse you reference, the only differences are a translation note as well as NAB using all caps for LORD, and NABRE using small caps. But sometimes there are differences. How useful would the link be if it were to NAB, which is no longer available to be sold?

Unfortunately this tagging is part of the resource as Logos sells it to us and so can't be changed by us. We can, however, change our prioritized resources so that it would link to a different bible. See the wiki at https://wiki.logos.com/Prioritizing for how to do this.

Welcome to the forums. Logos does not support that function despite my frequent requests. It will always open the highest priority Bible that contains the passage. See https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018068751-Parallel-Resource-Sets for the best work around.

We can, however, change our prioritized resources so that it would link to a different bible. See the wiki at https://wiki.logos.com/Prioritizing for how to do this.

Example 2 in the wiki shows how to do this for one bible - the one it uses more frequently. You can then use Parallel Resources to lookup the other translations e.g. create a collection of the bibles used by the resource and select it for "Show in parallel resources".
