Is Fundamentals Decent? What is it missing?

I am looking to use Logos for the first time. The site says go with basic to get a feel. But what does Fundamentals have that basic does not? Can you upgrade from Fundamentals in the future? Fundamentals is not on the comparison charts so it’s hard to understand, as a new user, what it’s limits are.

I can’t answer your question about fundamentals, at least not right w without reviewing it. Dynamic pricing means that you don’t pay for something twice. For example: when someone purchased a library when Logos 7 came out, they received a discount on libraries for Logos 8 based on the books they already owned.

Faithlife does not announce in advance when their new versions (and the accompanying libraries) will be released. However, a number of years ago Bob (the owner) suggested a two year cycle moving forward. If that holds, we would expect new libraries this year.

Dynamic Pricing reduces upgrade price to purchase a bundle (so not paying for the same resource/feature twice). Fundamentals does not have dynamic upgrade pricing, but does have special pricing at times (worthwhile Bible Study capabilities for $ 99.99 that has been on sale at times). Purchasing Fundamentals has dynamic upgrade pricing reduction for larger package/feature set upgrades.

Logos 7 Fundamentals was $99, Logos 8 Fundamentals is $99, so would expect Logos 9 Fundamentals to be $ 99.

Special upgrade price from Logos 7 Fundamentals (free gift from Logos 8 Base Package Upgrade) to Logos 8 Fundamentals was $20.

I would suggest a starter or Bronze set to really get a feel for the software. The strength of Logos (imo) lies in the breadth of the data (library) that the AI engine uses to give results.

Just curious, I looked at the above list. I don't use a single one of the resources/datasets! And I do have a large investment. And maybe I'm blind, but the interlinears without OL support seem a waste? But maybe many (most?) find the list invaluable.

I wouldn't associate AI and FL. They have trouble enough explaining their analytical graphs.

Logos seems to have a different system of working when doing bible study or other kinds of bible related work (Counseling). From my experience the difference isn't the books in a library (like WS) rather it is the sum total of data that is searched by the AI to generate the results from that database...sort of like the difference between Excel vs. WordPerfect. So if the underlying data sets aren't present in your library those components that are used to gets results from the AI searches aren't there then yes that library resource is useless...best I can tell. Sort of like when you have a formula in Excel but no data for the formula to use to get results. Took me a while to appreciate the difference between WS approach and Logos approach to data handling.

It's a good opportunity to get it now. Even if you upgrade to Starter or Bronze later, because of dynamic pricing, you won't pay twice for any resource. (It will likely even be cheaper to get this deal for $50 first and upgrade later, as Fundamentals is 50% off, whereas Starter and Bronze are usually on sale around 20% to 30% off, but never ever ever 50%.)

Concur $ 50 for Fundamentals is an interesting special price, which reduces dynamic pricing for larger upgrade(s) by more than $ 50. Personal opinion is $ 99 Fundamentals being worthwhile for Bible Study.

Fundamentals is what I have. I paid $50 for it, only by knowing how to get to the page through a back door, during a 50% off sale that did not link to the Fundamentals page. I have never seen Fundamentals advertised at $50.00.

Watching training videos shows me how much that I am missing. When searching, I get more advertising than usable information.

I seldom use Logos for my Bible study anymore, but use it heavily for my secular academic studies. I own the Britannica Great Books set, the IVP dictionaries, and a lot of the Leland Ryken Bible-as-literature resources. And I also have the Compton's and Britannica encyclopedias and the Webster's dictionary and thesaurus.

I am not sure how I want to proceed in the future with Logos. I recently transitioned my smaller and more used computer from Linux to Windows and everything that I do is in context to this bigger change.

Last night, I just made a fresh install onto my supplementary drive and I am still testing and tweaking that. I have looked and looked and looked at the Bronze package. I would really like more of the literary features. Again for academic reasons. I flat out cannot afford it right now, though. I have maxed out my academic budget.

I found the videos at learnlogos.com really helpful. If you sign up for a subscription, you get an e-mail within a few days to lots and lots of recent webinars that you can download for free.

With these videos and Fundamentals, you can get a really good idea of what is available for Logos and what you do and do not want.

A subscription is $15.00 a month. So a few months subscribed and Fundamentals at $50.00 is just under $100.00. After that, you will make much wiser choices about Logos in the future. You might never want more, or you might be hooked.

I just canceled my subscription and am buying nothing more for now, for training or from Logos. I am sitting tight with what I have, and rewatching some of the videos that I get to keep even after I canceled.

I have not been offered anything from Logos that is worth it to ME. Not yet. I'll see what happens on Black Friday and with Logos 9.

I should probably update this. I bought the fundamentals and I am currently selling some old books, etc. to get Standard. So far it is great for me. I do a podcast where we go through books of the Bible. Having a ton of resources in an easy to access format is what I was after. There was not enough in the free version and Fundamentals is great. But I want a couple more features. But thanks for your input. The $50 was well spent to get me started.
