Examples uses show the actual use of a word in grammatical roles, drawing its data from syntactic databases. AFHGR a.k.a. Andersen-Forbes Hebrew Grammatical Relationships data set. In the catalog, it is described as:

We’ve catalogued every subject, object, and verb in the Old Testament. The powerful data we’ve collected enables you to search the Old Testament by clause. Every time you perform a clause search in an Old Testament passage, Logos scours this database, giving you the most specific search results possible.

  • The add function (1) on the Bible Word Study task line, allows one to add more than one copy of the Examples Uses section. This allows the screen shot to show both the English and Hebrew options (6).
  • The Example Uses heading bar allows the selection of the resource used to populate the section. Only AFHGR (2) (Andersen-Forbes Hebrew Grammatical Relationships data set) is available in my installation.
  • The heading bar contains an information icon which displays a preview of the Logos Help support for this section. Yes, it refers to part of speech rather than grammatical role, an error that have been reported.
  • The lemma is used both as a subject (4) and as a direct object (5). The detail beneath the role contains the Bible reference and an excerpt of the text. The lemma under consideration is highlighted and aligned. Note only a sampling of the occurrences are shown.

The results can be verified through Andersen, Francis I., and A. Dean Forbes. 2009. The Hebrew Bible: Andersen-Forbes Phrase Marker Analysis. Bellingham, WA: Logos Bible Software. For Genesis 17:17 subject, the visualization is:

One can build a clause search that specifies both the grammatical role and the lemma. This both verifies the examples used in the BWS Example Uses Section, and adds additional example including compound and complex cases.
