Buy Logos 8 Academic Professional before Logos 9 is coming?

Hi,

sorry for the weird title. It is slightly complicated. I’m Interested in something from the Logos 8 Academic Professional (such as TDOT and ICC) but am not in a hurry to buy it, so it remains on my wish list for almost 2 years.

but i Suddenly realized that if Logos 9 comes out, then the Logos 8 Academic Professional might disappeared And rebundled into something else that might not contains those I wanted. And if the clockwork release timing of Logos is not affected by COVID-19 then it is very likely Logos 9 is coming soon.

And I recall when Logos 8 is released, there seems to be months of time for some Logos 7 packages to still be on sale. Does that includes academic packages?

Should I be hurrying?

thanks.

This is a very valid concern.

seems my memory is different there. I recall that when Logos 8 was released, users that recently bought Logos 7 packages (don't ask what FL's definition of "recently" was at the time - it must have extended beyond the usual 30-days return period) got the offer to exchange it for a comparable L8 package at a special rebate, but the opportunity to buy L7 packages was gone for good.

Thus, if I was in your shoes, I'd buy now. knowing that I get what I want and can trust FL to make sure that I don't feel bad should L9 come out soon.

Once L9 releases L8 will be gone.  L7 Fundamentals lingered for a while because you got it for free to give it as a gift to someone when L8 came out. That’s what I recall from last time, because my girlfriend was the lucky winner that got L7 from me 😁

    Thanks everyone.

i was talking about some special Logos 7 packages not those general purpose packages they have now. It seems it was an interesting experiment in the past that they don’t have anymore. I forgot the names but they aren’t like Gold or Silver. Those special packages stayed for a while after Logos 8 launched.

I’ll think about it some more. But frankly I’m quite tired of this Logos game. Since every generation they shuffle quite a lot, that tempted us to overbuy when we don’t need it. eg I really want to have the TDOT but then I have so much other dictionaries that I might not practically use that very much. But if I missed that then the opportunity cost to buy it later would be ~$600 (and my  dynamic pricing for the Logos 8 Academic Professional right now is only ~230 which gives me much more including the ICC that is a bargain but again not something I necessarily needed.)

Only you can decide how much is enough. However, if I could buy TDOT and ICC for $230, I'd jump.

I would also guess that this package, being as basic as it is, probably won't change much in L9. You'll get an introductory L9 discount if you choose to upgrade should it change in a way you like.

I agree with Mark. Looking at ICC, I couldn't tell quickly whether it's mainly just the golden oldies ... have to click each to see if a forest-green cover. But the combination is certainly attractive. I think I got it last year, and Biblicum (more source oriented) this year. With the Logos game, as long as you know what you want, and no more.

I jumped on it. Paid 174$ with dynamic pricing.

Historically ALL the packages will be reconfigured with the new major version launch.

So I would expect their to be a L9 Academic package. But I wouldn't necessarily expect it to be just like it is today. TDOT and ICC was a big part of why I picked it up.

Also, I noticed starting with maybe 7 or 8 (and maybe further back and I didn't notice) the academic packages don't always come out at the same time as the other base packages.

    L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

The pop-up on the little half moon on the ICC line says 75 of 76 resources are included.

My upgrade price is $7.32 but I’ll skip it.  It’s only 7 resources in German and some Hebrew grammar books.

Thanks all for the insight again. I discussed with my wife after that and we finally decided we should buy it now. It is the perfect timing as the recent WORDsearch migration makes this slightly cheaper due to dynamic pricing, and yet it is before Logos 9 launch that this is going to disappear. I know I'm going to enjoy the TDOT and am looking forward to it.

And as I was browsing my wish list I found that the Timeline collection has 50% off. So I bought that too.
