Improvements to clippings

In revisiting the use of clippings I've noticed several quirks that have reduced its usefulness.

  1. If I highlight a text from a Bible and save it to a clipping the clipping does not contain the full reference. It contains the name of the Bible and the chapter the clipping came from but not the book of the Bible it came from. That's very unhandy.
  2. Clipping  contain a citation to the original resource but does not contain the page the clipping came from.
  3. The export for print-out should contain an option to not print tags or date of the clipping since this takes up a lot of extra space. My reason for printing clippings is to use them as a study guide and I would prefer not to have use so much paper and ink just for that purpose.
  4. This has been brought up in another thread but it's worth mentioning again, there should be a way to condense a list of clippings for the purpose of manually sorting accessing and gaining an overview of the clippings file. This could be achieved by simply including the first X number of words from the clipping to give a general idea of its contents.

I still maintain that Logos is schizophrenic when it comes to notes and clippings and am bothered that they have not figured out a way to effectively integrate them in after all these years especially considering the effort put into workflows.

Have a great day,

It could be improved. But you can edit the Chapter heading to give the full reference (which is available as a Tag).

That depends on the resource, whether page numbers are available, and the Citation format you use. Are you expecting that for a Bible?

I agree.  If really important, I export to Word and remove extraneous information before printing.

You can make a suggestion at https://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-7

Check if that has been added to UserVoice (above link).

That is still possible, but Faithlife haven't given a time frame.

As a result of my bi-annual effort to integrate Notes and Clippings into my research methodology, I've I have some strong suggestions about Logos 8:

    1. When we export clippings PLEASE allow us, through an option, to NOT print the bibliographic information about the book in EACH clipping. If the file has clippings from just one source that would really help. (It would be icing on the cake to allow the user to have the export/print software group clippings by resource and sort them in the order they appear in the resource, e.g. page number, but it's not absolutely necessary)

    2. Also allow us to turn off the date the clipping was made as well as the tags.

    3. Allow the user to highlight a text, create a note and have one button that would simply copy the highlighted text into the note body. That would almost eliminate the need for clippings, but not always. It certainly would make Notes much more useful.

Oh please do not encourage them in this effort. I am one who does not want clippings to go away and do not see Notes as a viable replacement for clippings for a lot of reasons. Speed for one.

I'd have to agree about speed. The whole notes system is very slow.
