I was searching for something in Lightfoot's Apostolic Fathers in English (LtftAFE) and discovered that pages 5 to 40 are missing. Anyone know why??
The printed volume is divided into two parts in Logos:
Pages 5-40 are in Greek.
Thanks for explaining.Maybe I can probe further.
While looking at the following article in a lexicon, I was interested in looking up the comments in Lightfoot. In my edition, after searching for "Paul" and "Spain" I could find no such relevant reference.
Σπανία 4681
For the probability that Paul accomplished his purpose of visiting Spain (Rom 15:24, 28), see the evidence collected by Lightfoot Apost. Fathers Part I. vol. ii. p. 30f.
James Hope Moulton and George Milligan, The Vocabulary of the Greek Testament (London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1930), 582.
If you click the linked reference in the lexicon, the Greek text of Lightfoot is opened.
If you then open the corresponding Translation, it opens to the equivalent position so you can see what is being said. It looks as though they are basing this on comments about Paul having reached the farthest bounds of the West.
Very helpful. Thank you. Unfortunately the edition I have of Lightfoot is not the same as the one referenced in M-M, so the hyperlink doesn't work. But you've helped me find the reference in my edition of Lightfoot. Much appreciated.
