Windows 10 Challenges...

Howdy from Texas...

I'm using a refurbished computer for Windows 10, and one of the latest updates makes it unusuable.  I tried installing the OS on my data drive, and the same thing happened.  Windows 10 worked for a while, and an update caused it to simply reboot the machine over and over again.  So it wasn't my hard drive.

Until I can install one more time, and disable Windows Update, I am using my latptop with Windows 7 (and the Logos on it).  Which makes me wonder:

Since even other people, with newer machines, are having a problem with Windows 10 update, is there any possibility that Logos will consider updating their software *for Windows 7 machines*, to last at least until Windows 10 resolves their issues?

Some of us have been using Logos for two and a half decades, and we see the possibility of losing thousands of dollars worth of investment due to challenges with the OS and OS maker, and not Logos itself.

Thank you so much for your time.

PS  I don't have any resource available to comment on Windows 10, as our local Best Buy uses only people in their 20s, and has one technician in the tech room doing everything that needs any real computer science knowledge. My computer nerd friends have left for other areas of the country.

I presume that I am correct to simply try and re-install Windows 10, and then disable the Update feature.  If anyone with technical proficiency wants to comment on that, please feel free, as others may be in the same predicament since COVID hit (which is, I presume, the reason for nothing but young people working at the tech store).

Windows 10 is not my area of expertis. I’d be surprised if FL were willling to support Windows 7 at this point in time but understand you have to ask. You don’t get if you don’t ask.

Whike not the most satisfying alternative note you won’t loose your investment and can still access Logos, your resource, notes etc vis the web app until you get to the bottom of the Windows 10 issue. I have had no problems with WIn 10 at this point in time.

Do you have Windows 10 Version 2004 or 20H2 (go to Settings, type About, select Windows Specifications and look for Version)?

Faithlife will not support Windows 7. Only Windows 10 version 1607 and higher.

Thanks Disciple II for reminding me about the online version.  Salute!

Dave Hooten:  I believe it was Windows 10, version 19 something.  Thanks.

I realize your "not support" comment was the standard policy, but I was wondering if they would consider changing it until the Windows 10 update situation clears up.

As serious as it is, I'm guessing that if yours was a common problem, the forums would be flooded with threads to the same effect. Since it's not, I'm guessing it isn't. Since it isn't, I'm guessing they won't change their policy.

That's the only course of action I see. Unfortunately you can only delay updates in Windows 10 for 35 days, then you will have to update in order to turn off updates for another 35 days.

I wonder if a young person at your church is tech savvy and could help? If not, perhaps there is a PC center around that would do the update for you and/or trouble shoot what is going on?

I have had minor problems with Win 10 updates, but nothing serious. Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Version 1909 was the 'stable' version before 2004, which caused a lot of problems. Is it possible to return your refurbished computer? Warranty?

Thanks Sine Nome.  I guess I was hoping I would be starting such an avalanche of posts.  But, as you point out, not so.

Which means that a very high percentage of users have more modern computers.  Thanks.

Mark Smith, there is no local church I can go to here that teaches Scripture with any depth, especially not with COVID.  I appreciate your comments, and will simply have to re-install Windows 10 every 35 days, according to your post.

I go to a Best Buy, here, and will ask them if they can work magic.  I kind of doubt it, as they only have 20 year olds working there now, and only one fella who can talk tech lingo, and he is swamped with very little time to talk to me.  Plus, you have to have an appointment to see them.

I bought a second refurbished computer to act as "back up," not realizing this challenge was coming, of course.  The one in question I've had for 3 years or so now.  Appreciate your candid words.

Dave Hooten, thanks.  As  explained in my previous comment, I can't return my main computer, and the new one may be past the time limit.  Plus I purchased a number of add-ons for it, so...I'm going to have to pray for a solution.  Appreciate your time.

Ouch! I hope you can get the current update to work in order to avoid that.
