Install Original Languages Library DVD over existing Logos 4.0b SR-1 (4.02.3.7704)

Today I received the Original Languages Library DVD (Logos 4.0.3.5182) and wanted to install this. But unfortunately it didn't work. I've tried to find a tread, surged the wiki.logos.com but could not find a solution.

This what I tried:

Just inserted the DVD, Logos 4 started up, but did not install anything.
Via the explorer clicked on the set-up, no results either.
In Logos 4 command line: Scan {Resource Path} finds unlocked books in a folder or on a disk. You must close Logos and reopen it before this command executes, no results too.

In the zip-file I've included the Logos4setup, Logos4indexer and Logos4.log. Can someone advice me?

According to the Logos4.log you were working offline - why was that?

Try the following:-

Start L4 normally
Insert the DVD & wait until it has been recognised (don't run setup)
Restart L4 (it should start Preparing)
If nothing happens type scan <DVD resource folder> in Command box & restart L4.

[Y] Though I followed these steps (twice including restart windows), no update or installation took place. For a short time I see the "Preparing Your Library" announcement (stage 1 of 3). But than Logos 4 just starts without installing the new resources. Any other suggestions?

This week (March 27, 2010) I received a message that: "… your recent Pre-Pub order of Handbook for Hebrew Exegesis is now ready to be downloaded." But this recourse did not download (nor through the "Update Now" commandment)!

I asked this earlier, but the above log shows you are still working offline! This prevents your licence for the library from being downloaded, which is why no resources are discovered.

Is your internet switched on?

I've never noticed a difference between offline and offline [:$]. Sorry, you have to deal with guys like me. What an unbelievable complicated proces, this is! Right, I understood now there was a Setting to be changed AND this worked! Thank you. The Handbook Hebrew Exegesis is now in the library.

What happens now is that the program each time I restarts download 18.3 MB (more than three times now)? Why?

I think that I do have some of the books of Original Languages Library DVD, but I do not see for example (A Harmony of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles, by WIlliam Day Crockett and many more) in my library? Try to follow the procedure from your first reply, but not successful jet.

Please don't. Often when things get fouled up, straightening everything out so that they work smoothly again takes some time. Do you have the Brekhof collection? If so, do a search on the forums to find the solution to this particular problem.

This should start a download and indexing.

Right guys,

Berkhof it was… Logos 4 is finished with all it's own issues! [:D] Thanks for your advice and help. Once again, I'm grateful. The pipeline looks clear to me, I've done the re-cycling and even (in the meantime) cleaned my desktop! Wow.

BUT,… Now Logos 4 is finished with it's problems (we solved [8-|]), now I would like to install the Original Languages Library. That is what I intended to do!

Following these steps of Dave:

Start L4 normally
Insert the DVD & wait until it has been recognised (don't run setup)
Restart L4 (it should start Preparing)
If nothing happens type scan <DVD resource folder> in Command box & restart L4.

What does happen, is that once I put in the DVD Logos 4 is restarting itself. Signs in (yes, I'm online [;)]) and that is that. I even rebooted WinXP to be sure, but the DVD will not install. Any ideas?

(Question, is anyone of Logos reading these posts, or should I contact support?)

Did you restart L4 after the DVD opened L4?

Did you try the scan step?

For me hard to understand what I'm doing. You know, with Mac we just drag a (new or old) application to any destination and start using it. I never had the experience to beg a program (for more than one day now) to: "Please install itself [:D]." It feels so ridiculous to START a program, to INSERT a DVD and to wait for the program to RESTART itself AND on top of that to RESTART the program yourself again. Yo! Who writes such a software? I was used to use software, but now the software is using me. Australia, it's not thát far, is it?

I've done some reading at the forum. Is there any previous created file (e.g. setup, index or something), which can be messed up and prevent the DVD to install?

Let's try a log. Ensure permanent logging is on http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging. Close L4 and insert the DVD. When finished upload the Setup log file, logos4Indexer.log and logos4.log as per Uploading Logs.

The other logs occurred two hours after the setup when I need the ones resulting from Setup. Did L4 prompt for a serial number?

I hear what you are saying. I'm almost certain that those logs belonged together. Look at these new logs, why do they differ? Than, your question. No the DVD/Logos4 does not come to a stage of prompting for a serial number. So, no serial number is being requested. (To me, it seem "logical" that a install does not follow, but why does the program not prompt for a serial number?)

I've deleted the old logs and repeated the following:

Restart WinXP (Home Edition) SP3 (1,5 GB RAM, partition HD: 32 GB; free space: 12 GB)
Close Logos 4 and remove old logs
Inserted the DVD Original Languages Library (on disk: Windows 4.0A)
Logos 4 sign in and than the program is ready for use (Version: 4.0b SR-1 (4.02.3.7704)
No attempt to install my DVD

So, I've inserted new fresh baked Logs. I've no idea what those logs say, but I do discover (opening them in a plain text editor) that the two hour difference occur again! But they were created at 2-4-2010 Logos4setup.log at 10:03, logos4Indexer.log at 10:03 and Logos4.log at 10:06

Then a question, can it be a problem with the Indexer? I do not understand all what has been written of the forums, but people struggled with long indexing times. What will happen when there is a corrupt index-file (or any other database kind of file in Logos 4)?

It would appear that you are 2 hours ahead of GMT as used in the Setup log and the other logs reflect local time! They show there were no resources to be discovered so the things to be clarified are:-

is the licence up to date (ask Logos), or
do you already have the resources installed?

Here in SA we had the iPhasika (Eastern services from friday afternoon until the eastern service itself). So. I was out… Friday I got hold on the tech support with the acknowledgement that the licence is not activated onto my account… (though it ís on my account on their website). Any how, we probably found the reason why. I'll keep you informed as soon as I have some results. Thanks for your concerns, it really helped me to understand the proces and procedures. You've been a great help to me!
