L9 Desktop: Preaching Mode should not be in the broswer
I am very disappointed to see that preaching mode uses the internet browser instead of the Logos app. As an an itinerant speaker, I cannot rely on the different qualities of WiFi that different locations will have (or that there will even be Wifi!). Faithlife, please fix this. I want to keep all my prep and presentation material on Logos, but this is a deal breaker for me.

Do you preach from your computer? It works from my ipad without an internet connection and doesn't open up the browser.

I was also surprised that they put the preaching mode in an external web browser instead of the desktop app itself. Perhaps they ran out of time to implement it in the app itself. Perhaps it will come later.
In the meantime, keep in mind that, once you load the sermon in the browser window, you don't need the internet. You can even save the webpage for offline use later.

I have not used preaching mode yet and did not use the L8 sermon starter. I have made personal books for my sermons and it works very well for me. I will probably give preaching mode a try, but if I cannot get a layout similar to what I can do in a docx, then I dont think I will be willing to use it.

I do preach/teach from a laptop rather than a tablet for a variety of reasons.
I really hope that this was done in haste and will be rectified because it is just too much to expect that every setting will have WiFi, especially when teaching in areas of the world where WiFi isn't ubiquitous.

I agree. I am often preaching in areas where there is no internet. It is the reason why I use personal books and a full windows tablet to preach

Hi George, thank you for the feedback. I have good news for you!
We designed Preaching Mode to be a "mobile first" feature, meaning we anticipate most people using Preaching Mode from their tablet or mobile device. Early on in development, we spent time talking with people about their preaching habits, including their tools. Overwelmingly, people told us they use paper (about 50%) or they use a mobile device (of which most specifically said 'tablet").
The good news is that Preaching Mode works perfectly offline on our iOS and Android mobile apps. We designed it that way because we know reliability is paramount, we don't want to let you down in such a high stakes situation or require you to have trustworthy internet.
We download a copy of the sermon doc locally to your phone, and when you launch preaching mode (which you can do from any Sermon Doc), you are using a saved copy of the sermon. You only need internet to 1x to download your sermon docs to your phone. Once they are synced, no internet is needed.
You can use Preaching Mode offline on phones and tablets on iOS and Android.
If for any reason you can't or don't prefer to use your mobile device-- please note that we do download the entire sermon to your browser when you load it on desktop. You can go offline and still use the sermon doc in the browser, though refereshing would blow it away.

Yeah, this is poorly implemented. We should be able to use the preaching feature without the internet on our laptops.

Thank you for the response, Daniel. I still think this is a poor compromise for people that choose to use laptops. There are times when, upon reviewing my notes, I realize I've made a mistake or I want to add something and must edit what I've written. If I am somewhere without access to WiFi, those edits cannot be synced, and I cannot present what I intend. I could, of course, forgo the risk and stick to written manuscripts/PowerPoint, but I was hoping to begin transferring my material to Logos so I could have a one-stop-shop for prep and presentation. For me, this feature is let down.

Yes, I am constantly updating the sermon notes, even a few minutes before preaching. So this is a good point.

I for one am extremely grateful to see the preaching mode in the web app. Now I can preach from my Chromebook. At least that will be the plan. The more features in the web app, the more I appreciate the product. Thanks.

I would also like to see this feature updated. I used a surface tablet for preaching. I got it as an upgrade over my android tablet. I find it strange that it is more complicated to preach from the full featured app. I have even been looking into emulation options so i can run the mobile app on my surface pro.
Similarly, it would be very helpful to be able to edit the sermon on mobile. I am in the habit of tweaking my sermon often and it is much more seamless to use Microsoft word at the moment because it allows editing on every platform as well as reading in presentation mode. Obviously Logos has more features than the word processor, but I hope you will prioritize editing as the app develops.

How did you get preaching mode to work without an internet connection on your tablet?
I have a concern that the internet may fail one day, and I want to be able to advance my note pages and use them regardless of whether or not the internet is reliable.

But do you have to 'download' it to the tablet with active internet at the time you move it to the tablet to use it later without active internet?

You need to use an active internet connection to sync it to the tablet - but it happens automatically as part of the standard Logos sync activity

I have a Surface Go that I use as a Tablet (Allows me to run Logos with full function) and I also am greatly disappointed that I cannot preach from documents offline, It's really frustrating.

I have a Surface that I also use...I bought a Surface pro so that I could use L10 in tablet mode but still have access to the full desktop app. Requiring internet access for preaching mode is definitely a strange decision.
I guess you can start the preaching mode while connected and then disconnect from WiFi.

It's a discussion of the preaching mode in Logos and why it requires Internet access. We're not importing our sermons from outside of Logos but creating them with the Sermon Builder within Logos.
