An unscientific study: what is the most popular book of the Old Testament (thus far)?

If you've been following the pre-pubs feed, you will have noticed there have been a whole slew of recent pre-pubs with titles like "Studies on <OT book>." These are all between $29.95 and $59.95, with SRPs as much as 10 times the pre-pub price.

Anyway, maybe it was just that I'm still kind of in the April Fools mood, I don't know. But I decided to do a little unscientific study and see which Old Testament book of the Bible is most popular so far. Of course the fact that these have been trickling out at the rate of a few a day so some have been around longer for people to jump in on makes these results not particularly meaningful. And the prices vary too. But it is very interesting that even taking into account price variances and length of time on the pre-pub page, some books have reached 100% much more quickly than others which have been around longer and are cheaper.

Poor Zechariah. Maybe it's because he's so expensive ($59.95).

So what's your favorite book of the OT (or of the whole Bible)? If I could only have five books of the Bible, I'd choose Genesis, Psalms, Ecclesiastes, John, and Revelation.

Not in any particular order, but my favorite OT books are:

    • Genesis (The Bible's greatest epic.)
    • Job (It's immensely fascinating to know about the ancient world and about God's creation as God himself describes it. The Discovery Channel will tell you why a fish needs gills in mere utilitarian terms. But God speaks of His own Creation philosophically. He talks about it in terms of why that's beautiful. I didn't give a flip about zoo animals until I read the end of Job.)
    • Ecclesiastes (Such alien wisdom. All a man's efforts are for his mouth. What good are possessions except to feast your eyes on them? All effort springs out of envy from his neighbor, etc...)
    • Isaiah (The things that are said in this book...glorious.)
    • Ezekiel (Not because I'm thrilled with all the details of the 500 x 500 cubit temple, but because God reveals so many extremely important details about His glorious personhood. For example, God is so good, He does not delight in the death of the wicked, which we learn about in Ezekiel. It's more important to know more about how wonderful God is than it is to know anything else in this world and in the heavens beyond. It's worth learning about some of the best parts of God even if we have to read through a bunch of sad things to get to the nuggets of gold.)

And I...sadly don't have any NT favorites. I don't read the NT as much as I read the old.

Five books of the OT?  I only need four, I would choose the Torah, the  Nevi'im Rishonim, the Nevi'im Aharonim, and the Ketuvim   [:D]

while some might argue that they are not technicaklly books but divisions of the Tanakh, I would say that they all fit in four superscrolls  making them books in my.... book
