L9: Sermon Builder - problem pasting into passage
Hi all
I've come across a minor irritation with the Sermon Builder when I try to paste a passage into the Passage box under Sermon info. It seems that the mask for formats is quite restrictive in this field. For instance if I paste "Eph 3:1 - 3:20" or "eph 3:1 - 3:20" or something similar (without quotes) it doesn't pick up on the passage and simply blanks it out when tabbing out of the field. Whereas pasting "Eph 3:1-20" works fine It seems that Logos is not correctly parsing a number of reasonable variations of a passage. Am I missing something?
thanks
Paul

As far as I can tell, the accepted formats are the same as they are throughout Logos.

Thanks for the reply MJ I am not sure that this is correct. I did a test in the verse box on the ESV using one of the formats which fails on the Sermon builder and it works fine with spaces :

Yes but ... don't confuse the routine to suggest entries (the drop down) with what one can enter ... you must select and enter Ephesians 3:1-20 in this example. ... a subtle but important distinction.

OK understand that, however entering the same thing into the Sermon Builder doesn't cause any prompt:

Exactly. The Sermon Builder doesn't require that you pick your entry from a list; rather it requires that you enter your entry in a correct format.

OK, but the point still stands the format required is not validated in the same way as elsewhere in the software and hence is quite confusing for the user!

Bump, think this is a bug...
I expect that it's functioning exactly as intended. However, you could put in a feature request at feedback.faithlife.com for Logos/Verbum to generate a drop down menu at that spot.

Could be, and this may be what I am missing! What rationale is there for having two verse selections in different parts of the app functioning differently? In both cases they accept verses in order to prompt a selection from a predefined list, yet they function differently....

Speaking only for myself and not considering UI conventions, I find it faster to enter the reference without waiting for a picklist to populate ... and make more input errors from being impatient for the picklist to populate than for any other reason. Therefore, I like having the picklist method only where Logos doesn't know how to respond to anything outside the picklist.

eph 3.1-3.20 will cause a response i.e. omit the spaces It is different, but it is economical

eph 3.1-3.20 will work, but eph 3.1 -3.20 will not.

Agreed and it is consistent. In your example the passage guide and sermon builder info work consistently, in my example they don't.
