Thoughts on Apple Silicon Updates?
I case you didn't know Apple announced they will be changing from Intel processors to their own in house design meaning programs will need to be ported over sometime in the next two years or so. I'm not expecting this, but still asking in case they want to announce something. Will Logos 9 be updated so it can run natively on the new chips?
I think this could be a huge benefit to Logos, which of all the Bible programs is often the slowest. But making this shift sooner than later might help boost performance.
If I was prioritizing things, I'd put smoothing out any bugs in v. 9 first and then making the port ready by Summer or at latest a new version for next fall. Helps Mac users and helps Logos make a little money. I wouldn't mind seeing a 9.5 for a low price with nothing else but silicon support.

Also, Big Sur gets released on Thursday, so hope L9 is ready for that.

I would be surprised if they haven't already been busy on a Silicon port if they got one of those dev boxes. They probably are still busy with the main thing which is L9. I just wish they would tell us where they are actually at so we know what to expect.

The M1 Macs and Big Sur have a built-in translator (Rosetta 2) that will allow Intel apps to run. Whether or not LOGOS will run has yet to be seen.

I believe the two-year transition was how long Apple would take to switch processors over to Apple Silicon.
Rosetta 1 support wasn't dropped until five years after the (PowerPC) transition was complete (so developers may have seven years or so).
Not that anyone should wait that long to port their app... [:)]

I still would love to hear from FL devs on this. Can't imagine them not running Big Sur and L9 to get ready for Thursday.

I'm sure that FL is quite busy with L9 and getting ready for Big Sur.
Keep in mind, however, that we're now expecting FL to support an additional OS, for all intents and purposes. We are expecting them to support BOTH the current Intel-based Macs and the new M1-based Macs. Can FL do this???

Why couldn’t they? FL is certainly capable of doing that.
FL does have a new feedback site, which is working out well for them and for customers alike. If there are any Logos issues, customers will bring them up. FL is agile enough to adapt as needs and priorities change.

I will make the assumption that L9 runs on Big Sur on Rosetta on Apple Silicon. For all practical purposes expecting it to run a little faster is wishful and hopeful. FL never promises to do more than support its applications on a given platform with parity as to platform functionality. As cool as Apple Silicon is and all we might expect from it, it's still simply a foundation for using Logos.
Other than speed and graphics, the only real working advantage of Silicon seems to be battery life. I am slightly past the point where I am capable of working in Logos or anything else for 18 plus hours. I am going to be recharging much sooner anyway.[H]
