Atlas [Net]

Choose an interactive map of a biblical event or era from the sidebar, or use the filter box to find maps based on place, person, or passage.

The Atlas tool provides access to an interactive map database that is updated and maintained by Faithlife. Maps can be searched via Everything Search, and they provide links to information about important People and Places via the Factbook.

Map Window

The main view of the Atlas shows:

• A map. Maps selected from the left panel will replace the map in the rest of the window.
• Fit and Full Screen buttons with zoom control. Available zoom options will vary by map.
• A drop-down that allows user to choose whether the map is dispalyed in Flat or Terrain view.
• A side panel with a search box. When no search is active it lists every map available.
• Map scale overlay, which dynamically chooses the best scale.
• Ctrl+drag (Windows) or Cmd+drag (Mac) with the mouse to measure distances.

The search bar has the standard Verbum entry helper with the addition of a section for hits on map titles. Users can search a text string; biblical person, place, thing/artifact, or event; passages; or map titles.

Searching (or clicking hotspots) changes the results in the side panel but does not navigate away from an open map.

Left Column

1. A description of the entity if the search term is a biblical entity (Person, Place, etc.).
2. A passage link to the preferred Bible if the search term is a passage.
3. A list of matching maps, with the currently loaded map selected.
4. A link to the Factbook article on search term.
5. A Media Search link that runs a media search in all resources for the search term.

Hovering over a map hotspot displays information about that location. Clicking the hotspot runs a search for that place in the left panel, which filters the map list.

Note that it runs off a dataset rather than directly from resources. AFAIK there is no documentation of the dataset.
