I am beginning an indepth study of the Psalms. My focus will be on using the psalms in personal prayer and devotions. I am wondering what are your favorite resources for studying the psalms?
I like "Encountering the Psalms" by C. Hassell BullockThe Psalms Explorer in Logos will also provide you with a visual approach for your study.
The Treasury of David by Spurgeon (6 volume set) is also a good source.
One other book that I really appreciate is a more technical work, "The Psalms: Strophic Structure and Theological Commentary" by Samuel Terrien.
All of these resources are available in Logos...for a price. [:D]

Thanks Bill. I had the first edition of Encountering the Psalms. The second edition is in the EBS series that is on sale this month. I will grab it.

Thanks Ralph. I already have the first 2. I will grab Goldengay's. It is on sale this month in the Baker Commentary on Old Testament Wisdom and Psalms.
Allen Ross' exposition on the Psalms provides solid exegetical insight with good application principles

In my opinion, this shorter commentary by Robert Davidson is overlooked, but it has lots of insights. When I study the Psalms, I always consult this resource

Derek Kidner's short work is always rewarding

This brief book by Walter Brueggemann is a must have. It's not a commentary. It unlocks how Psalms work in our lives. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to think about this since I've gone over my budget, but the price for me is very tempting [:)]

Thanks Ted. Some good suggestions. I have all of them in my library. Some I had forgotten about. Thanks for the reminder.

Echo previous recommendations for Derek Kidner and Allen Ross.
I like the Ancient Christian Commentary Series for this kind of study.

Following. I love the Psalms as well. Also, I think it is great to study them, but also just know that letting them minister to you or praying them doesn't always require the intellectual type study. There are so many Psalms that seem to be written just because God knows how to minister to our hearts. Also recommend listening on biblegateway.com or another audio source. As far as recommendations, here is a ranked list of books you might check out "D" is devotional type and "P" might be appropriate to your purposes as well (pastoral). https://www.bestcommentaries.com/psalms/ Also note that sometimes more extensive writings break the Psalms into more than one volume.

Any know what the difference is if any?
Thanks Angela. I agree with you regarding an intellectual study of the psalms. I think I need to have a good understanding as to what a particular psalm is saying and whatever background info I can grasp but the purpose of the Psalms is more to speak to the heart than to the mind. Good point on listening to Psalms. I was listening and reading along on YouVersion app last night. I am really excited about what God will do as I experience the Psalms more than I ever have. God Bless.

The only thing that I am aware of other than the price are the one's I suggested are a newer more modern English translation. I got mine in one of the base packages I bought recently.
Thanks TW. I have the older ones and was just wondering.

I don't have the older ones so I could not compare them. Then again, I probably wouldn't have the newer ones if the weren't included in a base package I bought recently. Price is kind of scary!
The Preacher’s Outline and Sermon Bible (POSB) volumes on Psalms are nice for devotional time: https://www.logos.com/search?query=posb%20psalms&sortBy=Relevance&limit=60&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=availableToMe
