The Harvest Handbooks™

So the Harvest Handbook™ of Bible Prophecy is finally up for pre-order. That's excellent. My bid is in.
Are there any plans to bring the other Harvest Handbooks™ to Logos too (Harvest Handbook™ of Apologetics, Harvest Handbook™ of Bible Lands, Harvest Handbook™ of Key Bible Words)?

I’ve never heard of these but I do love the author. I’m in

I've not heard of these before either Jan. Have you used them before? Could you give a bit of a review?

Sure. I own the Harvest Handbooks of Apologetics and of Bible Lands in dead tree format. I used them for coursework at VIU as required textbooks, but they've been useful as reference works many times afterwards too.
The Harvest Handbook of Apologetics contains 75 essays written by experts in the respective fields. The Handbook in some ways is much like an encyclopedia with the difference that it covers fewer topics, but in greater depth, and not only provides the bare facts but whole arguments. Some of the topics you usually wouldn't find in encyclopedias at all, such as Near Death Experiences. The handbook is ordered by topic, so it's easy to find what you're looking for, and since related topics are grouped together, you can just keep reading if you want to do broader research (or if the topic has caught your interest).
The first essay is available as a free preview:

The Harvest Handbook of Bible Lands is quite different. It covers geography, archaeology and culture of the Near East roughly from the time of Abraham to the time of Jesus. The book is replete with illustraions, photos and maps, and connects the Bible to all the other sources that we get from archaeology and related fields. It provides great insights into the culture of the day. Interesting or controversial details are covered in greater detail in breakout chapters, for example identifying the Pharaoh of the Exodus, the location of Mount Sinai or Joshua's long day.
One of the highlights is a foldable timeline/chronology showing the dates for the vaious cultures of the Ancient Near East aligned by historical synchronisms.
There's also a free preview available. https://www.harvesthousepublishers.com/data/files/excerpts/9780736975421_exc.pdf
Dr. Collins has announced a second edition. I've not seen an official announcement by the publisher, but it could be worth holding off getting this book. (Should it come to Logos, there'd be even more reason to hold off the purchase of the dead tree edition.)

Thanks Jan. That is really helpful and I've put them on my wish list.

Good find. I wasn't aware of that one. There are two more "popular handbooks" on the Harvest House website.
The Popular Handbook of Archaeology and the Bible
The Popular Handbook of World Religions

Since Harvest House books are on FLEB, but this series is not, I do wonder whether all of them are in line for Logos release...

Was not aware of this, thanks for pointing it out.
Hopefully I will be able to resist the temptation to purchase from amazon and wait for the Logos edition.

Since you don't need them as text books, you can afford the luxury of waiting. [:)]
However, I do have a better idea than buying from amazon. Attend the VIU conference next April (last year there were heaps of the handbooks for sale), meet some of the authors (Dr. Holden will surely be there - let's be surprised who else), and get your copies signed.

Thanks for your interest Jan, we would like to have additional Harvest Handbooks available in logos, hopefully we'll know soon.

I just preordered the rest of them. Hopefully by end of January we’ll have them all out of prepub 👍😁👌

This is why we need to separate the good the man has done from his sin and not punish other authors for it! I was really looking forward to having that book in my library 😡 What really makes me angry is that all RZ did was write the foreword to the book; he didn’t even write an article! 😤

Ps. Head over to CBD and you can buy the ebook version for $1.39 yes that’s 1 dollar and 39 cents!!! But hurry before they pull it down too! Only downside is you have to use their ebook reader, but something is better than nothing!
I hope they edit the book, remove the foreword by RZ and put it back in the market! This is a great book! 👍😁👌

Correct, I have just checked my kindle version. So glad I made the purchase now on kindle a few days ago on sale before it was withdrawn from Amazon.
A few more of the Harvest handbooks are on sale on Amazon.

Confirmed! How did I get the idea that he wrote articles about Hinduism and Pantheism.......? [^o)]
Anyway, a lot of hard work went into that book. This is annoying, and could even be fixed easily. It's just one page that would have to be removed.

It's gone everywhere now. But for full searchability, it just needs to a Logos book.

I'm convinced it will be back. The release was a big thing for VIU in 2019. Since the second edition of the Harvest Handbook of Bible Lands is in the making, maybe this one will be updated too, apart from just removing the foreword. If Joe Holden announces anything, I'll let you know. When I next talk to him, and there hasn't been an announcement by then, I'll ask him about it.

I was thinking he wrote about those in one of his other books but I would have to look. My guess is Jesus among other gods

CBD sent me a couple of emails saying the item has been removed off the shelf and that I wouldn’t get charged. Unfortunately for them, it had already downloaded to my iOS so they better not try to take it away 😝

Found it. It's the Apologetics Study Bible. But don't tell anyone. It'd be a shame to see that get pulled too.

I doubt they'd pull a whole study bible. I suspect future editions of that study bible will be sans Ravi's contributions, however.

The Comprehensive Guide to Apologetics is out:
The Comprehensive Guide to Apologetics | Logos Bible Software
Previously known as the second edition of the Harvest Handbook of Apologetics.
New foreword by Dr. Rhodes. And the index has disappeared. I did some superficial spot checking for other changes, but couldn't find any.

I don’t see it sold anymore. Did they can this series?

I’m sure glad I have both editions! Too bad the original I don’t have it in Logos 😒

Who is RZ mentioned in this thread? I have these in hardback boxed up from my seminary days. I love these handbooks as well.

What is the deal with RZ? I have not heard of any scandal about him. Am I missing something?

Oh my... Google his name and read about it. The first article that popped up for me was: https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2021/february/ravi-zacharias-rzim-investigation-sexual-abuse-sexting-rape.html
In the aftermath, publishers went through and scrapped most of his books as well as books he wrote intros and forwards for.
