Problems accessing the web app site
Entering the address app.logos.com in my browser works fine
But using the address www.app.logos.com does not (I've tried this on different platforms and with different browsers)
Should either address option work?

Thinking about it, the problem has been around for quite some time.
I have seen it on a number of occasions but, as I don't use the web app much, I have never really looked into it before.
My reason for exploring it now was the issue reported at https://community.logos.com/forums/p/197535/1144675.aspx#1144675

It's not a problem, it's a conscious decision - it appears to me that www.app.logos.com is not valid - not configured for the logos.com server. You can determine this (on a Mac) by typing the host command - host www.app.logos.com, it will say 'not found' vs. doing host app.logos.com, or host logos.com. You can use other commands too to learn the same thing, like nslookup.
Many sites do not configure 'www' any more. It's really not a part of the URL/internet address as much as it is a unique destination - so it's just not there. Twitter, yahoo, and wikipedia.org are examples of big sites that do not have www - they do map it to another destination, which logos could also do to avoid confusion if they chose to.

No, the web app is at https://app.logos.com; the other URL isn't valid.
As others have mentioned, there's no requirement that a website address contain "www". For example, https://www.en.wikipedia.org/, https://www.mail.google.com/, https://www.locate.apple.com/ are all invalid web site addresses (but work if you remove "www").

However, it may be a tad confusing for those that don't.
Is there a technical reason that you have excluded the 'www.' because I am no beginner with computers (I may be failing to keep up) and I would not have thought to check a non-working URL by excluding the 'www.'
I suspect I am not alone!

I'd say we're not browsing the world-wide web when we connect to app.logos.com. It's not a typical web page containing links to other pages or hosts.
To put it another way, app.logos.com can be thought of as the 'app' host at the 'logos.com' domain.
A 'www' host at an 'app.logos.com' domain would mean that there's an 'app' sub-domain at 'logos.com,' yet there isn't. It's the .app part that stops that invalid address from resolving, not the 'www' to the left of it that the domain name service resolver hasn't considered yet.
