Hi, I would like to listen to an audio of The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah by Edersheim. Any suggestions?
A narrated audio version isn't available to purchase on Logos.com but do you know that your desktop Logos programme can read it to you?
If it would be of use, open the resource, click on the three vertical dots at the top right of the resource, then select "Read aloud"
Gordon, that is fantastic! I just tested it out on my PC. Will it also work on iOS? Many thanks for the quick reply!
I'm glad it is helpful. The feature works on the Windows and Mac desktop programmes but sadly not on the iOS or Android mobile apps.
Well... kind of true. There are some accessibility features in iOS which some users have repurposed to do read aloud. It isn’t a logos app feature but an iOS one.

Does iOS' in-built accessibility feature scroll down continuously through the full text of a Logos resource as it reads aloud or does it merely read a manually highlighted paragraph/section? I imagine it would be tedious and impractical to listen to a whole book using the latter approach but it would be very cool if the former is in fact the case. I don't have an iOS device to test this for myself.
I'd be grateful if you, Alabama, or any knowledgeable forum user would kindly confirm whether the iOS accessibility feature provides book reading functionality on a par with a desktop Read Aloud feature.
With thanks in anticipation.
Hi Gordon. The Pocket app was recommended to me. It seems that is going to work. VOICE OVER ON did not work past the one screen in Logos. Best, gb
I don’t use the feature, but you may find luck creating a post in the mobile forum.

Thanks, this helpfully confirms my understanding of the limitations of that iOS accessibility feature.

I have no experience of Pocket but I wish you success with it. Happy listening! [:D]

Shalom Gordon!
I have an iPad and in my opinion the iOS accessibility feature is even better than the Read Aloud feature on my Windows desktop. It is actually the #1 reason why I prefer the iPad over an Android tablet. The iOS feature does scroll down continuously through my Logos resources.
It is not perfect and sometimes it will read the previous page again before continuing to the next page. I believe this is often happening with "complex" resources (e.g. books with pictures). The iPad will read Biblical Hebrew as Modern Hebrew and Ancient Greek as though it is Modern Greek but this is much better than the English voice on my Windows desktop. After a quotation in German it sometimes takes a while before the iPad switches back to English.

Wow, read aloud for Logos on mobile devices that's better than the desktop programme sounds amazing! What would you say makes it better?
You mention some significant drawbacks that cause me to wonder if it really is comparable let alone superior to the desktop experience but, clearly, you feel that it's a very good approach overall.
As the OP has been unable to get the iOS accessibility feature to read beyond a single screen, perhaps you would kindly list the steps necessary to listen to the full, continuous text of a Logos resource on an Apple mobile device.
Every blessing.
In the settings of my iPad (iPadOS 14.2) I have selected Accessibility > Spoken Content > Speak Screen. When I have the Bible (Logos) app open I just have to swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen and the Logos resource is being read aloud. If you want a resource to be read aloud continuously it has to be in a single pane (i.e. not in split screen).
English is not my first language (in fact it is my third language) and I use Logos to read books in several languages. On the windows desktop I have to change the Text to Speech settings in the Control Panel (which BTW is almost hidden away in Windows 10) each time I want to have a book read aloud in another language. On my iPad I don't have to do anything since the iPad automatically chooses the right language (although this does not work in A-nother competitor app).

I have never done this, but I would assume that it is better to have it in "scroll" view rather than "paged." Is that correct?

Thanks HJ! [:D][Y] Hopefully this will help Gregorio. And I might actually consider buying an iPhone when I next upgrade my mobile phone [H]
