Logos Application Location

I have a dual monitor configuration. I would prefer to load LBS onto my secondary monitor. I have not found any way to force LBS to load on my secondary monitor. It opens on my primary and I have to move it to the secondary, which would be somewhat acceptable if not for the fact that every time I change the layout it pushed it back to the primary monitor.

Is there any way to get LBS to remember or use a specific monitor?

I am unsure, but this would be an OS question rather than a Logos one. What OS are you using? On Mac, you can tell the app to open on a particular desktop... I am unsure if that would include a second monitor or not.

On a Microsoft windows pc.... you can thru settings, designate which monitor is 1 and which is 2. Look into your Microsoft windows settings and reset your monitor... then it will go to that monitor.

type "rearrange displays" in cortana

A screen will come up that will help you decide.

Follow the directions.

I do not want to change the position of my OS primary monitor. I want Logos to open on the secondary monitor so that my primary monitor is visible with Logos open. Every other program I am aware of remembers when it is moved to a secondary monitor and opens up on the secondary monitor the next time it is executed. It is a real oversight if Logos is unable to do this.

I use two monitors also and my program (Verbum) opens to which ever monitor it last closed on (customarily #2).

I believe - but haven't checked recently - that if you set up your configuration as required, save it as a layout and then configure Logos to open to that layout on startup, you should get the result you are looking for.

It has not worked for me since Version 7 and across multiple computers. If there is a setting, I would be interested in knowing it.

Most Windows programs can be forced to save the layout by pressing control while exiting the application.

I believe Graham is right. I tried his suggestion and it works for me.

I also checked out opening Logos and then moving it to the other monitor and closing it. When I re-opened Logos it was on the "other" monitor. It did remember which monitor it was closed on and re-opened on that monitor. The trick is to close Logos on the monitor you want it to open on.

Thank you all for the comments. I opened up LBS, moved to the secondary monitor, cycled through each layout and clicked "Update Active". LBS does in fact open on the secondary monitor.

Personally, I do not like the idea of my saved layouts being modified upon close. The point, at least mine, for a saved layout is to go back to a known arrangement. Quite frequently my study and preparation result in my closing or opening different resources. I do not want these to be saved in my Saved Layouts.

My configuration is not always the same. I have dual monitors when docked on my desk but only a single display when I am mobile. I am now thinking that the mobile configuration is overwriting the preference for the second monitor.

I am not sure this will be able to be resolved.

As I suggested --- try this ----

1. Open Logos and wait till it's fully loaded.

2. Physically move Logos to the other monitor.

3. Close Logos.

4. Wait a minute then open Logos again.

I think you'll see Logos open on the monitor that you closed it on. As far as I know... Logos does not save any layout when it closes. You have to manually "Update Active" under the layout icon on the menu bar at the top right to update a layout.

As per xnman's comment, my understanding is that saved layouts are only updated when we explicitly request it. Are you seeing something different?

As mentioned, if you save a default layout, Logos will remember your display preferences. You could create one layout called “remote” and one called “office” or something like that, but I do not really see how that is easier than hitting Windows+shift+arrow to move the a-location where you want it.

Controlling where things open is a broader Windows problem, and the best solution I know of is Power Toys. I am not sure why Microsoft does not include it in the default installation, but it will let you assign Logos to a zone or just have all apps open on the window they were in when they last closed. I am not sure what options it offers when you have two different setups at different times, but it is worth looking into.
