Logos 8 Desktop suddenly runs very slow
I've been using Logos on my Surface Pro and it has performed wonderfully.
HOWEVER, sometime within the last couple weeks, it started to run slow. I mean unusably slow - 30 seconds just to open the Layouts panel. Longer for a layout to open. Using the "next verse" (down arrow) icon, it can take 10 seconds simply to move to the next verse.
I use intensive layouts, many resources open, using the "link set" option on many of them, but it used to just "smoke:" through these. I never had to wait for anything. I purchased a different computer (HP Elitedesk Mini). It's just as slow. I only had 8GB RAM in either machine, so I upgraded the HP to 8GB + 16GB RAM. Hardly made any difference. (Other software is running fine.)
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Logos 8 on both machines. Indexing took nearly 24 hours. But after indexing was complete, No improvement.
I can use Logos by stripping a layout down to 2 English Bibles, no link sets. But since this is happening on both machines and started all of a sudden, I thought this has to be fixable.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this, or what could fix it?
I know there's a lot of wisdom and experience among you folks.
Thanks for any ideas.
Ron

Hi Ron - and welcome to the forums
Sorry to hear you are having problems.
I have seen a few similar reports recently and it seemed to be linked to the use of the Acronis Active Protection Utility - see https://community.logos.com/forums/p/197754/1146254.aspx#1146254
Are you using that product at all?

Hi Graham!
Thanks for the welcome to the Forum... and your advice!
Yes, I'm using Acronis. I turned off Active Protection, and Bingo! Back up to normal speed in Logos.
I never would have thought of that.
Thanks again!

I am running L8 and having the same kind of c-r-a-w-l-i-n-g-l-y-s-l-o-w-r-e-s-p-o-n-s-e. Just clicking from one open tab to another can take 10-20 seconds.to load. Constantly getting the spinning pizza and the screen going gray...and no, I'm not using Acronis. Very frustrating. Have 16gigs on my laptop and I rarely see my free RAM drop below 5-6gb. Earlier today I saw it had dropped to 1gb free. Something is definitely chewing up memory, and I'm only noticing the issue in Logos.

In the thread I referenced above - https://community.logos.com/forums/p/197754/1146241.aspx#1146241 - Bradley recommended capturing and posting some profiling information. Sounds like a plan!

I use Acronis True Image 2021 and was able to get back to normal speeds simply by unchecking the "detect malicious behaviors in processes" box. Everything else I was able to leave on. I've attached an image. Hope it helps!

Yes, that did the trick for me also. As long as "detect malicious behaviors in processes" is unchecked, it seems to allow Logos to work fine.
Thanks!

I have Acronis 2020 and have always had Active Protection on with no problems.
Logos runs very fast for me, on my 1 TB "SSD drive", even though I have an old 2012 Powerspec B-638 computer with an old motherboard.

Logos was always slow for me until I got a computer with an SSD
