Ok I finally decided to open WORDSearch this year, 2021. All I get is a busy signal and nothing. I am on a iPad. So is Logos now closing out WORDSearch completely? I really do not like Logos.
So is Logos now closing out WORDSearch completely?
I would be very surprised if this were happening - the stated policy seems to be that it will run until operating systems no longer support it.
What do you mean by a "busy signal"? (Apologies, I know nothing about how Wordsearch works)
Cecil,
I just opened the mobile version of WS on my iPad without issue. BTW, this continues as well as WS desktop program by WordSearch/Lifeway, NOT Logos. If or when it quits working, it is WS not maintaining the program, not Logos. I suggest you try and contact them with you issues.
While I understand your frustrations, please review the matter more closely before placing blame. From the WS website:
Can I still use my Wordsearch software? For how long?
Yes, you can continue to use your Wordsearch desktop software. It will continue to run on any computer that currently supports it for as long as you wish to run it. There will be no further developments made to the desktop software. The Wordsearch web and mobile app will continue to run, though the content available will become more limited over time.
I hope you get your problem with WS resolved.
I suggest you try and contact them with you issues.
FYI, Faithlife is handling all Wordsearch support (since the acquisition).
From the WS website:
This is actually the Logos website [:)] https://www.logos.com/wordsearch-faq#wordsearchworks
We don't plan to "shut down" the Wordsearch desktop or mobile apps, but we expect that (like almost all software) one day it will "stop working". (Perhaps it won't be compatible with the new version of iOS, or perhaps it will need to be upgraded to support TLS 1.3 or HTTP/2, or perhaps you won't be able to reinstall it on a new computer.)
You may be able to get help from the user community, but our official answer is going to be: Logos is the upgrade to Wordsearch, it's fully supported, and we can help you get it running and provide free video training on how to use it: https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019103211-Logos-Feature-Training-Videos
I just went to the WORDsearch app on my iPad...forgot that I had "deleted" it. Applied the appropriate sign-in information and and it immediately reloaded the app and restored my full (iPad version) WS library. Within a couple of minutes, I was able to search, read and do everything that I was able to do prior to deleting it weeks ago.
Graham a riddle:
when I say a busy signal, the WS app is continuously trying to start, but never does. I can’t use my WS at all. Very disappointed.
really angry that every time I have call support I get a sales pitch to purchase a library, I.e. a package deal in Logos. they keep hitting me for like $800-900 . So I really get the feeling I am being $#)”@- on.
Cecil - John and Bill just verified that the app is still working, so the issue is likely on your side. What version of ipadOS are you running? You might need to delete the app and reinstall it as Bill did.
In the long run, you will want to migrate to Logos. You do not need to make an additional purchase.
I just tried, and the WS app is not working on my two iOS 14 devices. It does however still work on an old iOS 9 iPad.
The WS web app does work on iOS 14. https://app.wordsearchbible.lifeway.com/
Cecil ----
WS is working well on my PC.... no problems. I use it regularly because some things work faster in WS than Logos. You sure the problem is not on your computer?
I am not on IOS 14, so it could be a software issue that Logos, according Bradley needs to address.
Out of interest I have just installed the Wordsearch app on my ipad (running iOS 14.2) and it opens without any problems.
I don't have a Wordsearch account so skipped the signin procedure and was able to open a copy of the ESV
So it doesn't seem like just a straight issue with iOS 14
It hangs when I download a resource and then try to read it.
Resources that are not downloaded can open, but navigation to another point doesn’t work.
I just re-installed on my 14.2 iPad Pro, and the app is unusable.
iOS 13.6.1 - works(Yea, I haven't upgraded in a while).
Windows 10 - home (2004) - works
I updated my iPad to 14.3 and tried again with the same poor results. I wonder if the Wordsearch app has arrived at the end of the line earlier than maybe expected? [:O]

Since Faithlife is now doing maintenance on WS.. then I would expect them to answer your question. I don't think they are doing any more development per sae.... and I don't know how far they go in maintaining or how long they would maintain.
I would expect them to keep WS running at least until they get all the books and such migrated...
mmm...
Since Faithlife is now doing maintenance on WS.
Everything I have read would indicate that Faithlife undertook, not to do maintenance of the program but to maintain the existing program's availability on the internet, for a while.
The corollary to that is the unspoken, 'if you want to use the existing program don't break your operating system'.
Unmaintained programs are likely to fail more quickly on iOS and MacOS systems because these OS's are improved quite often. Perhaps acquiring an older Android unit might help?
Mike, that's the impression I got, too.
Speaking of unmaintained programs, and since this thread is about the mobile app, I just had a look at reviews on the Apple and Android app stores, and basically WS on mobile/tablet consistently received poor reviews. From my own usage, this was justified. WS was primarily a Windows desktop program, and other platforms lacked development.

I think that Faithlife started to develop the app at just the wrong time and with the wrong (but understandably wrong) mindset.
They were quite clear in the beginning that they were developing a 'reader' app for the iPad. Perhaps a 'reader +' app might be developed along the way.
Almost as soon as the early versions were released the iPad took a leap forward in processing power and users started to expect the iOS version to mimic the MacOS version. Probably if they were starting from scratch a different Logos app would be developed.
I happen to think that the app is reasonably good for what it is. What it isn't, is a replacement for the desktop version and that, I think, may well be the reason for the poor reviews.
MIke - I think what Darrell is referring to is the Wordsearch app for mobile, not the Faithlife ones.

duh!
Graham is right, by WS I meant Wordsearch.
Yes, but compared to Wordsearch, Logos is a resource hog that sends you all sorts of stuff that you never desired to open while trying to read or study. The ensuing Rabbit Trails and trying to find what you are actually looking for are both annoying and time consuming.
Not meaning to be fecicius but maybe y'all should look more into the way that WordSearch operates in order to improve Logos. Logos LOOKS really nice, but operationally, I'm not so sure.
Faithlfe "Aquired" both WordSearch and Quickverse (which was originally from Parson's Technology) much in the same way that Logos aquired WordSearch from Faithlife.
Basically, since the late 1980's, the realy good programs were bought out much in the same way that many corporations have been bought out. "If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em and take their customers".
Parson's Technology (QuickVerse) also had "Money Counts" that was bought out by Quicken in much the same manner, because they just could not compete. Bob Parsons did it right.
So, two of the best Bible software programs ever are no longer available to younger generations or missionaries that are nowhere near any sort of civilization, let alone a cell tower.
Logos is cool, BUT it's a major resource hog, very expensive, and requires an internet connection. It doesn't do a person a whole lot of good in the backwoods of West Virginia, out in the Desert of Arizona, or any other remote location that a person may be located. Or the individual that still runs WindowsXP due to financial constraints. (There are more out there than you think).
Logos also seems to be targeted and cater to financially well off individuals, and not the teen that just got saved and wants to learn and doesn't have any money, or the disabled Veteran that is on a fixed income for the rest of his life.
Sorry for the rant but that's about how I have seen it.
Keith, you may find some counsel in 3 other threads that discuss the concern you have raised about what Logos is and what it should be.

Logos is cool, BUT it's a major resource hog, very expensive,
Logos 9 + Logos Basic = $
Logos 9 + Logos Basic + Logos Essentials = $
Logos 9 + Logos Basic + Logos Essentials + (Free Book of the Month x (ymonths)) = $
Logos also seems to be targeted and cater to financially well off individuals,
Only well off individuals, or individuals that prioritise this spending, actually buy expensive resources! Are you suggesting that the less well off, the teen, or the veteran, can buy those resources at significantly less cost in book form?
Logos does indeed cater, at the more expensive end, for professional theological and ministerial workers and professionals need professional tools and quality does not come cheap.
