Android App Bugs and Improvements Needed
I recently purchased a nice e-reader for reading primarily Logos books. In the process, I’ve switched from only experiencing the Logos app on an iPhone, to now experiencing it on an Onyx android tablet.
I did expect a bit of a downgrade going from iOS to Android, but the downgrade is massive, and I’m honestly pretty disappointed in the Logos android app. I do love that it functions, and I can read such a wide variety of books because of Logos’ massive library. However it’s pretty painful to use in some big ways. Some glaring differences I’ve noticed that significantly impact the reading experience:
- BUG: Scripture navigation by verse is missing the entire 5th column for every section. This means if you want to open up to a Bible book that is the 5th, 10th, 15th and so on, you can’t. Sorry, no access to Deuteronomy for you... unless you tuck your tail and turn back to the table of contents menu instead. Then... need something in the Beatitudes? Sorry, its in a chapter divisible by 5, so no luck there either. Hoping to read a 5th, 10th, or 15th (etc.) verse in Scripture? Nope. Can’t navigate there with the Logos android app. Sorry buddy! Out of luck! Go back to verse 4 - no 5 for you!
- Dark mode is only dark mode for the background of the resource text, and has no relation to any menus or look-up/highlighting screens. The end result is that if you aim to look-up, highlight, add any notes, or change resources at all, your eyes will face the merciless blazing white menu screens - which essentially renders dark mode, at least functionally, close to useless since the eye shock is probably worse than just dealing with the white screen the entire time. Night mode shouldn’t be considered finished until the menus and such are also included.
- The pop-up text in dark mode isn’t white. It’s black with a tiny white outline, effectually rendering it near unreadable. I honestly can’t read it - and I have 20/15 vision. Since one of the reasons I use Logos is so that I have easy access to references via the pop-ups, (and much of my reading is in night mode), this significantly lessens Logos’ edge over and against apps that don’t have the pop-up reference function, with cheaper books - like Kindle. For all practical purposes, the white outlined text renders all pop-ups in night mode useless.
- I haven’t checked on this since the last update - so it may be fixed. But I suspect not. The information screen on a book varies in length. On most books, to close the screen and go back to reading the book, you can simply tap the book’s text below the information panel window. However if the information panel is larger than normal (because of a longer synopsis of the book), you can’t tap the text below and can’t get away from the screen - not even to look at other tabs. I was forced to shut the app down and restart a few times for this reason. The iOS app has a back arrow. The android app has no way of going back other than tapping on the text below. Moral of the story is that you shouldn’t ever look at the info panel on any book - unless you’re prepared to have to shut the app down entirely and then hope it still doesn’t open to the same information panel again - in that case you’ll need to delete it and re-download.
I'll try and post pictures of these issues below.

Not an issue on my Android phone
if the information panel is larger than normal (because of a longer synopsis of the book), you can’t tap the text below and can’t get away from the screen - not even to look at other tabs.
On my phone the panel does not cover the menu bar at the bottom. If I touch the very bottom of the screen, I can still get out.
These two issues might be unique to your device? Sounds like a scaling issue to me, where at least on those screens, part of them go off-screen.

Please send in your logs and any screenshots that you have.
1. Open the app.
2. Tap the Menu icon (has three horizontal lines).
3. Tap Help.
4. Press "Report a Problem"
5. A pre-addressed email will open with a log file attached automatically. Please attach any screenshots you have of these problems, and then press "Send" to send your report. We can then look into this further.

Glad I found this thread. I was considering switching from an IPad Pro to an Onyx Nova 3...these bugs have given me pause.

Looks like the old forum image bug is at it again... So my description will have to suffice for now.
The paper clip isn't working?

Can you be more specific about what you mean when you’re doing “scripture navigation by verse” in the app? I’ve only used the iOS mobile app up to this point.

Also, have you tried using the web app in the browser? What’s the experience?

Is a column still missing if you rotate the device so it is in landscape mode?

Try setting DPI settings under App Optimization - Display to 300 and see if that helps.

Received a message that the bug here is because the app isn’t formatted for e-ink. I can hardly believe that e-ink has anything to do with an entire column being missing
I concur... I can’t imagine that it is because the SCREEN is “e-ink.” The more likely issue is the device display itself. It is easier for Apple to optimize apps because there is a fairly limited number of combinations of screen size and resolution. For Android there are hundreds or thousands.

We have attempted to address the issue of the missing Verse Picker column in the latest beta.
