What makes Logos 9 better than logos 8?
I'm interested to read why you are enjoying using Logos 9. What features make it better than Logos 8? Is it worth getting?
I have loads of books and enjoy using Logos. it came to life for me aftervgetting a new computer with an SSD drive. So fast to load. So fast to load tools, passage guides, etc. Some of these used to take about a minute to get rolling in my old computer.
What resources make Logos 9 worth the cost?

There are different ways to interpret and answer this question.
First, let me make sure that it is clear that the L9 engine will eventually be free for all. We don't know when that will be, but likely sometime this spring.
Second, FL uses "L9" to talk about base packages / libraries AND feature sets.
If you are considering updating, you need to determine what you are looking for. From my perspective, I am mostly concerned about resources. Purchasing a new library during the launch period (right now) is typically the most cost effective way to build your library. If there are books (and especially sets) that you have been waiting to get, it would be worth looking into.
As for features, I will let others chime in with what they like. I do have a subscription to Faithlife Connect, which provides me with all the new features. I am ok with losing those if for some reason I need to drop the subscription. Again, my primary concern is with books and using Logos as a digital research library.

Dark Mode for me, which should be in the free release later this year (maybe next month).

For me the answer would be the new and improved FactBook and the counseling guide.
The FactBook is a good starting point for study. Also, for me as a pastor, the counseling guide is a good starting place to prepare myself for needs that surface in counseling, like premarital or grief counseling.
Both of the above tools enable us to better utilize resources that we already have in our libraries. As Faithlife tags resources with these tools in mind, the tools will become even better over time.

I'm putting my toe in the water and have purchased Anglican Starter. Iterested to have a look at it, but I know this only gives me some new features

Honestly, I wouldn't miss much by not upgrading to L9 datasets. I couldn't find a feature that was groundbreaking or much needed. L9 new features are more like L8.3 per say.
L7 to L8 was a big upgrade & had major improvements. L9? Meh.
You wouldn't miss much.

For me there are a number of useful features in Logos 9 - some new and some incremental
- The improved Factbook is good and becomes a good place to start many areas of study - I really find it helpful to have this on mobile as well, a powerful feature
- The Sermon Manager Tool is a good way of managing sermon series and the introduction of sermon templates will be useful for some (personally it's not a big thing for me). I do like the ability to easily incorporate notes into sermon documents, that really helps with my process of sermon prep
- The capability in the Commentaries section of a Passage Guide to sort based on priority, series, author, denomination and type is really helpful
- I do like the Preaching Mode - particulary on Mobile - and especially the ability to control Proclaim slides from there. Something I have been hoping for for many years
- The ability to set up Reading Plans to operate at my own pace and the way they are built on chapter boundaries is really helpful - a significant, incremental, change to how reading plans operate that I have bene finding really useful
- Being able to add images to notes as helpful - although its not something I have used much as yet
- Passage Lists coming to mobile is a good step forward

I came from WS and did not use L8 that long, but I did so to speak, cut my teeth on L8. Also, I am still a bit of a newbie and may not use L9 to the fullest yet.
- I find L9 to be quicker than L8. It just "feels" quicker and more responsive to me. If a program is not "responsive" and quick.. well, L8 just didn't feel that way to me. L9 does. It gives a "confidence" factor of sorts to the program.
- I like the Factbook. I use it, I am getting to depend on it.
- I did not have Sermon Builder in L8 and now I use it every day in my studies and such. It has become my virtual memory of sorts.
- Package Lists is another biggie for me. Between Sermon Builder and Package Lists I already have toooooo many files that I work on, update, and continue to use.
- And the fact that Package Lists and Sermon Builder work on my phone and tablet is very helpful. I don't have to transfer files like I used!!! Yea!!
- One thing I have not used that much yet... is collections... I am in about ankle deep so far with collections.... but I do see capabilities that I have not explored yet. Add tagging with that and I do see power there to find things I want, to narrow some of my searches, etc.
Does one need L9? Of course the answer is "No". And most likely some people should not update or get later versions. A good preacher friend of mine died at age of 83. He never used a computer in his life. He thought it was a waste of time, and I wish I knew as much as him about the Bible.
But this Bible software tool... makes my work of learning God's Word simpler and faster. That's why I upgraded. L8 didn't give me the "confidence" that L9 does... I like typing in and getting answers... not answers for me... but answers to help me in what I am studying. I am learning more to do that quickly in L9.

I initially upgraded to get the Bible Books Explorer (probably their most under-advertised best new feature) and the upgrades to the Factbook. I love the Intertext feature in the Bible Books Explorer and I'm starting to use other features in the Bible Books Explorer as well. I also find I use the Factbook a lot more with the upgrades to it. Dark Mode is a great option to have at night but they still need to make a lot of improvements to it. That should be available for free soon so I wouldn't pay to upgrade just for Dark Mode.
If I were a preacher I think I would appreciate the new Sermon Manager. I see a lot of potential there. But I'll let actual preachers tell you what they think about it.
I now have the Full Feature set but I initially upgraded through the Verbum Academic Essentials package since that was only $65 for me. The Academic feature sets are great because they gave me the new features I wanted for a good price. The only reason I went to full is because I wanted the free Mobile Ed course and the rest of the upgrades to the Factbook, which requires Silver but adding Silver to Academic caused me to have all the features.

Graham and Levi named my two favorite new features—Then change in the Commentaries section of the Passage Guide, and folders in the Shortcuts Bar. I may warm up to the new Facebook after putting it to more serious use and when FL finished improving it.

.Dark Mode has many opportunities for improvements (a number of color choices have awful contrast for reading as subtle colors look "cool" in light mode, but blend together too much in Dark Mode). Some color themes would be awesome (e.g. High Contrast) as various color combinations are more pleasant/useful to different people: car colors show some range of choices (and older eyes tend to have more issues distinguishing subtle color shades).
