Highlighting inconsistencies
I have having fits over this highlighting function. Here is the issue. I highlight something (on my tablet, for example) and then later on when using my laptop, I find that I want to delete a highlight and perhaps use a different color. Sometimes I'm able to select previously highlighted text and remove the highlighting but other times it won't let me delete the highlighting and it is messing up my color coding system for highlighting. Why can I select some highlights and delete it while other highlights seem permanent?? This is so frustrating.
Addendum: I opened Logos on my laptop, tablet, and phone. The tablet and the phone match exactly (I suspect that's because they are using the "mobile" app) but the Desktop installation on my laptop doesn't sync with the mobile app at all and so all the highlighting is totally different. Is it possible to sync the mobile app and the desktop app? I'd like to just delete all of the highlighting in my desktop app and start over again because it's all so discombobulated and out of sync with my mobile apps. I have been using my tablet a lot for highlighting because I often read at night before bedtime or have my tablet with me when out on the road and so that is the highlighting I'd love to sync with my desktop app (which I have on two different computers).

Well, there is a chance that you are looking at something else other than a regular highlight. It might be helpful for you to provide screenshots. Make sure to include the visual filter menu open for the resource so that we can see what you have turned on.

Yes, and under normal circumstances they do. My guess is that yours is doing so, but you need to learn how the visual filter menu works. If they are indeed not syncing, the most likely culprit is that you aren't signed into the same account OR you have an old and outdated mobile app.

By default, they should sync automatically - so we need to work out why it is not doing so in your case.
Are you using the same login details on desktop as on the mobile apps?
Is anything synching between desktop and mobile - either way?

Hello, gentlemen. I did a little experiment. I am using Logos 8 on my laptop (because it is a Linux laptop and running Logos with WINE) and I highlighted one thing. I then opened my phone up and checked the passage and it did highlight it. I did have to restart the app on the phone in order for highlight changes to take effect but they did take effect nonetheless. Likewise, when I highlight in my phone, the change will appear on my laptop, desktop, and phone after a restart of the program. My phone is using version 9. My laptop is using version 8. My other desktop has version 9 on it as well.
So, I'm seeing highlighting updates occur but don't know why the other highlights cannot be cleared. Also, these highlights I am unable to clear are not seen on my phone or tablet; only on my laptop and my other desktop. They are not propagating to my tablet or cell phone.
I have always had the same account but I did have to change my email address a while back and that turned out to be sort of a convoluted mess too so I wonder if that is why I can't clear these old highlights. Could that be the issue? If so, how can I just totally clear all of the highlights and start over? At this point, I'm stuck with highlights I don't want and can't clear.
I know this is a mess. Hopefully we can get it resolved. Thanks so much for your help.

I think what I am going to do is contact Logos and ask them to totally remove my account from their system and I'll sign up with an entirely new account under a new email. I'm just having problem after problem with this since I changed my email address some months ago. For whatever reason, that email change messed up all of that and so now it's as if there are two accounts running at the same time (one static, one active) and I can't remove anything from the old account that is now static due to whatever happened when I changed email. I'll just see if they can activate a totally new account and just carry over my purchases to the new account. Does that sound feasible?

Unfortunately, when you use an application in an unsupported mode e.g. Linux, the problems that arise are your responsibility. Are you trying to clear the highlights by deleting the highlight records in Notes? That would be my first step in trying to straighten things out.

This is interesting - and it suggests it might not be anything related to email addresses.
Logos desktop supports Visual Filters - the ability to set up visual indicators on texts and Corresponding Notes and Highlights - the ability for highlights from one version to appear in another. These are not supported on mobile so do not sync there.
Neither of these can be deleted using the normal delete highlight button.
I wonder if you are seeing one of these.
Please post a screenshot (using the paperclip icon in the forum editor) showing one of these highlights you can't delete - ideally with your mouse hovering over any icon associated with it

I think I may have figured it out purely by accident. I just started going through every possible menu item, highlight, note, etc., and started deleting everything in the NOTES section. I deleted all instances of highlights and notes in everything that popped up and that seems to be doing the trick. I looked there before but I must have missed something in my first view of it. Once I realized that there were hundred of line items, I just deleted everything that had a DELETE option. I'll know more as I continue reviewing my newest highlights and seeing if those old ones appear anywhere as they did before.
Thank you all so much for your help with this. It may not be over but I think today's "discovery" was a big one in getting me to where I want to be. My frustration level was pegged.
God bless.
