Hey Mike, you mentioned here that you would see what you can do about getting the 1 Enoch Hermeneia translation in Logos. In light of the fact that we just got the Jubilees Hermeneia translation released through Logos, could we get some kind of update on 1 Enoch?
Bump for the morning.
Maybe Mike will be around today?
Today could be the day!
I am not very enthousiastic about this resource, but love your enthousiasm. Bump for you!
Let me share an ad I saw a while ago and post it here as reference for when you come looking for an update 😂😂😂
“We don’t give updates today, please, come back tomorrow!” DAL
Ps. The ad was actually about giving credit when you go to the little town’s groceries store because you don’t want to pay today 😂😂😂 “No credit today, please, come back tomorrow!” And the same ad was there the next day 😂😂😂 so pretty much no credit at all 😁
Anyway, I hope you get your update with this post 👍😁👌
Thanks!
Anyway, I hope you get your update with this post
I'll take all the help I can get!
Jude 14-15 quotes directly from 1 Enoch, but there is an issue of translation which would benefit from multiple translations.
Jude 14–15 (NRSV)14 It was also about these that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “See, the Lord is coming with ten thousands of his holy ones, 15 to execute judgment on all, and to convict everyone of all the deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”
1 Enoch 1:9 (Hermeneia Translation)
Look, he comes with the myriads of his holy ones, to execute judgment on all, and to destroy all the wicked, and to convict all humanity for all the wicked deeds that they have done, and the proud and hard words that wicked sinners spoke against him.
1 Enoch 1:9 (OTP1) [Our current best scholarly translation]
9* Behold, he will arrive with ten million of the holy ones in order to execute judgment upon all. He will destroy the wicked ones and censure all flesh on account of everything that they have done, that which the sinners and the wicked ones committed against him.”
Note that there is a translation issue at the end of the verse, where Jude and the Hermeneia translation use harsh things/hard words spoken against vs. OTP1's translation of "that," for which there is a footnote pointing to the fact that Charles was for amending the translation to follow Jude.
It would be much easier to make these comparisons if we had the Hermeneia translation to consult in Logos...just like we have the Jubilees Hermeneia translation in Logos...and just like we have the complete commentary set, which would seem to indicate that there would be no issues acquiring the 1 Enoch translation.
Of course we would know if only there was an update.
If...only...there...was...an...update...
Thanks Joseph, I should have an update soon.
This is now available to Pre-Order, thanks for your patience.
