Your Indexing is LAUGHABLE

Hello

It feels your indexing runs every 10 minute. I know this is not true but if feels like. Fully laughable.

But the most laughable part is it is for NOTHING.

If I import a Greek text as PBB and do a search the options doesn't display the words from the file. For example I try to find a word in the text. I use to simplify it the word "Αλλαχ".

Fully annoying of the alltime indexing. Fully laughable for not indexing what it should.

What a stupid software!

May you say now: I have used the wrong font by import. Then 1. fix first the problems with the import of Hebrew and Greek as I mentioned before. Second tell us which font we have to use. I also mentioned this before. So it's Up2U to do something.

What a stupid software!

Fabian, it is clear that you, like myself, jump in with both feet and simply try the software to learn it. However, I suspect you would be less frustrated and mocking if you spent a bit more time asking questions before spending time expecting the software to do what it is not intended to do. Logos expects to be given the lemma to a apply to a form not applying some stemming routine to make a best guess. Yes, it does use a stemming routine for English if you request "match all forms" and it may do so for other modern languages - I don't know. You should be able to use any Unicode Greek (or Hebrew) font. I believe you also need to set the language attribute which can be done in Word.

As I don't know what the text at the bottom is, what language code is set, if the font is unicode, etc. I'm afraid I can't help. Someone more use to working in Greek likely can help.

From your screenshot it looks as though you are using an Inline Search and that you are finding 3,291 results.

So I'm not quite sure what the problem is - please clarify further.

And yes language was set to Greek in the word file.

For example. As a help to find the correct word which is in the file. For example I begin with Μπισμ and in the pull down window the word Μπισμιλλάχιρραχμάνιρραχίμ is displayed. So I can choose this by clicking on it to search for it. So it is a help, also to prevent for mistyping and then find nothing. (And yes this is a word in this file). This would be helpful for all languages, especially for the foreign ones.

It can make sense to display all words of Logos (actually it doesn't otherwise the one of the file I imported are also in), but only as the second step.

The program has become an albatross

Original language searches have become a computational puzzle.

Additional gripes:

Upgrades and improvements occur often enough that I’m lost and confused. I’ve become dependent upon the internet for simple searches. The internet is quicker and more reliable.

The program has become so large and cumbersome that my computer can’t keep up. I often find that I can search for things faster on my bookshelf than in the program.

I‘ve lost books in the program. I can’t remember the exact name and can’t find them anymore.

I have friends that purchased the program are having difficulties and I can’t help them.

I‘ve stopped recommending the program and greatly reduced my purchasing of new titles.

Leider is nothing mentioned in the Wiki how to... I imported also another foreign language and I have to find out with trial and error which font works. Even it displayed it correct in Word with Times New Roman.

Yesterday I imported this file several times, more than I can count today. I get warnings. I tried to open it in different text editors, also LO. I got more warnings. but I saved it and opend it in Words again. And imported it. No warning. The opening in LO save and then in Word again solved it. I have no clue why.

I have it now imported with New Times Roman. No warnings or error occurred only the √. So all ok. But now the tag to seach for Greek letters with the Latin keyboard doesn't work. If I use SBL Greek I get a warning by import as this font is not supported, but now the "g:" tag works.

So it is not my foult. There is no manual. All is try and error.

Fable:

A bad example:

Search a word in the list. (This works only if I use SBL Greek, and I get an error by import. So buggy.)

Result: ZERO. Why it came then up? Head-shaking!

Good example:

Search by beginning typing the word. Then choose the one you want.

Hit [Enter] and BANG, you got what is in the text.

100 point for the competitor.

Both claimed the file is indexed by import. But the results are 180° the opposite. By one of the two is the indexing laughable.

The usual/expected form for that Proper Name is Ἄλλαχ, which is why Αλλαχ is not listed.. If Ἄλλαχ was in your file, g:allax would list it.

I think g:sab would have given you the "good" word you chose.

The fact that it found Αλλαχ in your file showed that it had been indexed. Whether spelt correctly or otherwise, all words in a book are indexed.

Interestingly, Αλλαχ and αλλαχ suggested Ἄλλαχ at the top of the list; which would have found Αλλαχ in your file. I'm on Windows 10 if that makes any difference. And I'm not a bible language expert - it's trial and error for me!

Thanks. The file is in modern Greek, a lot of accents and diacritics are not used anymore. And I don't have added it, as they are not in the source.

Earlier I wrote Logos has also problems to find some word in other resources because of the changed diacritics. I would love if there is a sharp and a soft search across the modules in Logos. So for comparison reason it is currently not ideal.

I'm on the Mac and the word ΑΛΛΑΧ is not listed, even it is so in the file I imported. Only in this form. It's also not coming up if I use Αλλα. It should then be listed between the words with more than 4 letters.

We're aware that the search autocompleter lists all words in the index, and not only in the current resource. (This problem became much more noticeable after Inline Search was added.)

There's a case to improve this; I've added a link to this forum thread to it.

The suggestions would be unlikely to cater for modern Greek as it seems to list bible words. But Bradley's comment would indicate that it should suggest the word that is in your PB.

Match commands can be used to refine matches for words in different languages e.g. [match accents] hebrew:מֶֽלֶךְ. Commands can be combined by separating with a comma e.g. [match dagesh, accents] hebrew:מֶֽלֶךְ will be sensitive to vowels and accents. Greek searches are not sensitive to marks, which is why Ἄλλαχ will match Αλλαχ and vice-versa. See if this helps.

One can control whether or not diacritics are considered in the match of a search -- it's the match option Search Matching Commands (logos.com)

Thanks to Dave and MJ. But my experience differs. I had a word in the modern Greek. It was a word that I know it is in the Greek New Testament too, but with other diacritics. I double clicked on it and the Greek New Testament wasn't mentioned as the diacritics was different.

I tried it again. Unfortunately I can't remember which word it was, but it seems now to work.
