Greek Resources
I would appreciate advice on buying Greek resources. For background, I've spent a fair amount of time studying Greek on my own (primarily JACT Reading Greek series, which I know isn't Koine). I would guess I'm on the level of a mediocre student with one semester of Bible college.
I'm interested in building a library of Greek resources to help in my personal study of the NT. I'm not preparing sermons, just doing this for my own personal study and application. So far, all I have is what is included in the base software (the one that is on sale for $50, usually $99). So in terms of Greek, basically the free Greek NT and the pocket Lexicon.
I've been looking at potentially upgrading, but all of the packages to me look like I would be paying for a lot of stuff I won't use, such that it doesn't make sense even with the large percentage discounts. Instead of buying packages, I've been buying academic commentaries that are highly reviewed and on sale at steep discounts, and have been really happy with what I've picked up. I feel like my best strategy to build up a library over time is to buy the Biblical language resources I will actually use and then pick up commentaries on sales.
Anyway, with that background, here is what I'm considering purchasing:
- TDNT, Abridged ($57)
- Louw & Nida ($20) (This looks like it would be better to me than Thayer, assuming I don't want to pay up right now for BDAG?)
- Lexham Theological Wordbook ($70)
- Lexham English Septuagint ($25) (Obviously the Lexicons aren't going to serve me well for the LXX, but I'll plan on remedying that at some point, and I am interested in studying the Septuagint)
- English Greek Reverse Interlinear Septuagint ($20)
Any advice/suggestions/ideas? Feel free to tell me this is a dumb idea. I feel like I could pick out the right resources in print, but figuring out exactly what I want to purchase to work well with this software is challenging!

Getting Bauer is a rite of passage for every Greek student. I still think you should seriously consider a package at some point so that you can integrate your language studies into the Bible better for better understanding. You might also look at the Expansions on sale right now too.

I will just point out that the Expansion sale that is now on, includes a Greek Studies. I have no idea how good the resources are but probably worth evaluating.

TDNT, Abridged uses transliteration elpís of Original Language words while TDNT uses Original Language letters: ἐλπίς
Abridged leaves out many original language quote examples.
TDNT is in collection Unfiltered (Logos Special Edition) that also includes Lexham English Septuagint along with NIGTC (Top 2 Commentaries currently shows seven NIGTC volumes available to purchase being one of the Top 2 Commentaries for a Bible Book)
Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament is also in Unfiltered (Logos Special Edition)
Screen shot includes a sample from Louw-Nida's Semantic Domain Lexicon (included in Logos 9 Academic Essentials as is TDNTA) and Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words

It would be nice if FL put a language package with BDAG/HALOT, Louw-Nida, TDOT/NT and other Greek and Hebrew “Heavyweights” resources for anyone to purchase. I’m sure it would be cheaper to get them all in a package than buying them individually.

many have given good advice. My quarter-drachme or so: If you go deeper into biblical Greek, you'll end up buying BDAG, so either put it onto your list now or into a wish-list for later (but as far as I recall, it never gets on sale). Forget Thayer. Lots of recent lexicons refer LN's semantic domains, but LN is the only one indexed by it, so you'll want to own it.
For the Septuagint, there are lexicons for this, especially the Lexham Analytical Lexicon to the Septuagint - get a number of Septuagint resources bundled together, e.g. in https://www.logos.com/product/195547/verbum-9-eastern-rite-starter

This is a lot of good advice and ideas - I appreciate it. I've spent some more time working through all of these collections. I had written off the Unfiltered collection, as I'm not into the whole Nephilim craze (I don't mean that in a bad way). But looking at it more closely, it is pretty intriguing from a financial perspective. I did the math on it and if I take $942 and subtract out items I would have likely bought (or wanted to buy) eventually anyway - AYB ($270), NA ($100), TDNT ($200), LXX/Reverse Interlinear ($45), Milgrom Numbers ($48), Beale! (love this guys work) Revelation ($65), Dunn Colossians & Philippians ($35), France Mark ($45), and Knight on the Pastorals ($39) --> I get down to where I'm paying $95 for everything else.
For that $95 I would get high quality commentaries on most of the rest of the bible plus a bunch of other Greek and Hebrew resources that I wasn't necessarily looking for (and potentially can't make much use of in the case of the Hebrew) but probably all work well together within this program.
I'm thinking of just getting this plus BDAG (it sounds like that really is just the dominant reference work, and I know from reading through commentaries that they are all referencing it heavily). It's more than I had originally intended to spend in one chunk but the package seems like a really good deal.

BDAG example (ἐλπίς) shows breadth of usage in Bible & other Greek literature (while TDNT and other 'discussion' lexicons have more depth: e.g. NIDNTTE, TLNT, Vine's, ...). Thankful for Faithlife's visual filter to unpack BDAG for easier readability:

I wanted to let everyone know that, in a surprise to myself I ended up deciding to go with the Academic Essentials package. I was very tempted by the Unfiltered Package and might still upgrade to that in the future, but chickened out on the price tag and wanted to play around with a cheaper package for a while before spending that much. I'm also planning on picking up BDAG at some point.
I've had the package for a few days and am very happy with it. I've also been picking up commentaries on sale, and have already amassed enough very highly rated commentaries that I have enough to keep me busy for a good long time. I've got Mounce on Revelation, Wenham on Genesis, Stuart on the Minor Prophets, Waltke on Proverbs, Fitzmyer on Romans (although I recently went through NT Wright, so may not read this for a good long while) plus a number of AYBC commentaries from this month I haven't been able to sort through yet.
Two things I've learned are that the Hebrew tools are more helpful than I thought they would be, even for someone like me who doesn't know or ever plan to learn Hebrew (they're especially helpful for trying to follow some of the commentaries), and the grammars are way more important than I realized. I didn't really pick up on how helpful the grammars are until I watched one of the training videos explaining how they work with the EG Guide tool - it's really amazing.

Well, keep your eagle eye on Unfiltered if you really liked it. You won't have wasted your present purchase. Unfiltered wasn't updated to L9 (looks like) and specialized packages disappear into the mists of 'oh my ... it's gone'.
