Faithlife Study Bible: Why Are There TWO Drop-down Menus for the Bible Translation?
I have the FSB open and see on the top bar next to // (parallel resource sets) TWO drop-down menus allowing you to set the Bible translation. The first allows me to set it to ANY of my many Bibles. The 2nd is restricted to default, ESV, KJ1900, NASB95, NKJ, NIV, NRSV,
I read the section, "Using Faithlife Study Bible," in the Preface and it says, "To change the translation of FSB, simply select one of the supported translations. The bold text at the start of each note (the biblical text fragment) will automatically change to your selected translation."
I opened the ESV (my default) and linked it to the FSB. I then tried multiple settings in BOTH of these drop-downs while reading the first two chapters of James. But either I don't understand how it's supposed to work (probably) or I still don't have it set correctly because the biblical text fragments did NOT match up to the ESV.
I tried changing my Bible to the NIV and it seemed to work better, but it's not my default Bible.
Why are there two drop-down menus and how should I set them to work with the ESV?

I don't know why there are two - I don't understand what the one one the left does
If you set the one on the right to use the ESV, the FSB should display the text of the ESV. I've just checked and it works here

The one on the right controls the translation used within the text of the FSB. The one on the left controls the translation shown by references in the pop-up/open.
Because I use the NRSV as my normal default Bible, I usually have them both point to the NRSV. However, when I am working with the NARBE as I often do, the one on the left points to NABRE and the one on the right remains NRSV.
In your case it sounds as if pointing both to the ESV would be appropriate.

It works here, too. And MJ has an answer for the left drop-down, but it's not working for me. See my response to his reply below.

Well okay then! That makes sense...except the control on the left (which translation is used for pop-up/open references) is ONLY showing my default Bible (ESV). It makes no difference what I set the left control to.
It's not an issue with me, but it does seem that something is "broken" with that leftmost drop-down.
I've also learned that when you set the rightmost drop-down to default, FSB then uses the LEB.
So...I'll set the rightmost drop-down to whatever I need and ignore the leftmost. Thanks, guys! [:)]

You are correct ... not sure why it appeared to work on my quickie test.

Great! Thanks, everyone! As a side note, in my former life, I was a computer programmer (32 years). My specialty was flushing out bugs. Guess I haven't lost my touch, amen? LOL!

1) The left dropdown is not working. It always displays references in my top prioritized Bible (CUV).
2) The right dropdown -- how come there are only 6 choices (ESV, KJV 1900, NASB95, NIV, NKJV, NRSV)?

From the preface of the FSB:
As of 2016, the digital version of Faithlife Study Bible lets you read the study notes alongside seven English translations: King James Version (KJV); New King James Version (NKJV); New Revised Standard Version (NRSV); New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95); English Standard Version (ESV); New International Version (NIV 2011); and Lexham English Bible (LEB). To change the translation of FSB, simply select one of the supported translations. The bold text at the start of each note (the biblical text fragment) will automatically change to your selected translation.

Thanks Graham.
This functionality (able to choose your own English Bible version) seems to only work on desktop version of the software. Those dropdowns are not in the web or iOS apps.

The feature is available in the Study Bible mobile app where the study Bible tracks the reading in the aligned Bible

One of my TWO identities. On older threads, where I'm Denise, I have 11k+ mindless posts. But with my DMB identity, I'm a newbie. Oddly, I can't log in thru Logos.com, but can thru the forum and Verbum (which share the same cookie apparently, while Logos.com and app.logos.com remain alien territory).
