Personal Books Backup / Restore ?

I just wanted to confirm that it is possible to backup all the personal books I'm importing and then restore them on a separate computer (when I purchase a new laptop in the future)?

I found the personal books at:

C/User/AppData/Local/Logos/Data/string#@$/ResourceManager/Resources/

If I copy the contents of this folder "resources" to another location (external drive, etc), then after install of a fresh Logos 9 install on another computer (I do not have a second computer to try out) and paste the contents into the new install "resources" folder, will all my personal books populate in Logos correctly?

Are these the correct steps, or am I missing something?

Logos Wiki has =>  Quick Installation onto multiple computers where Method 2 OR Method 3 uses scan command to copy files from Resources backup (includes *.lbspbb compiled personal books plus Faithlife resources) followed by having those resources indexed locally.

So the resources folder has everything in it? regular logos titles + personal books? If so, couldn't I have logos download a fresh install on the new computer, with all the regular resources and then just add the *.lbspbb files afterward into that new folder? Does Logos periodically scan the Resources folder to see if personal books have been added, or is the scan for indexing definitely a required step?

And thanks for the link. That makes me rest a little easier.

    Yes

Yes, using scan command to copy *.lbspbb files (if they were not uploaded to Faithlife servers). Due to an upload bug => Bug: 7.2 RC 3 Regression: Personal Book Discourse Glossary have used scan command to copy *.lbspbb (& many regular resources) into new installs for me.

Does Logos periodically scan the Resources folder to see if personal books have been added, or is the scan for indexing definitely a required step?

Scan definitely copies files into Resources folder along with indexing them. Downloading resources goes into a different folder during download: when complete, Resources are moved into Resources folder followed by indexing them. Compiling personal books also places files into Resources folder followed by indexing.

Personally do not know what action(s) may cause Logos to scan Resources folder looking for new licensed resources (as Logos 4 and newer were not designed for users to copy files directly into Resources folder, which was a change from Libronix 3).

I think KS4J gave you the answer you needed, but for clarification: with default settings and an internet connection, the personal book builder PROJECT syncs up to The cloud and down to desktop applications. So does the book’s metadata (title, author, etc.). The compiled book does not sync unless you manually upload each one after compiling. The source file(s) never sync on Logos servers. If you ever need to make any changes to the finished product, you will need those.

    Update:

So I did some experimenting this evening since my personal book count is getting up there and I wanted to make double sure I could backup and restore without issue.

    1. I imported an article using the personal book tool. I was able to locate it in the folder where personal books are stored by the creation date (which wouldn't matter if I want to backup/restore the entire library, but...).

    2. I copied this individual file to another location, then went back into Logos personal books tool and deleted the article (this automatically removed the file from the default storage folder. Closed/Opened Logos. File gone, not listed in Personal Books tool or in Library. Closed Logos.

    3. I then returned the copied filed to the file location and restarted Logos. This immediately triggered the popup stating Logos was indexing.

    4. Once Logos opens, the file does not repopulate in the Personal Book creation tool, but it did populate in the Library and does open and appears to work fine. It even keeps the tags.

    My question is:

Are there any differences to this process when doing it with a fresh install of Logos on another computer? Are there any additional steps I need to complete with a new/fresh install?

You might have to use the scan command that ks4j suggested.

As stated above, use Method 2 or Method 3 for a fresh installation (or re-installation) -  Method 2 is best when you are replacing an old computer. All your personal books and the PB creation tool will be transferred. Don't forget to copy the docx source files to the new computer. Don't destroy the backups until the new installation is working OK.

Note that the data in the PB creation tool is automatically sync'd to a new installation, so you shouldn't remove any PB's from the tool unless you want to delete the actual PB resource(s).
