Faithlife Essentials Connect -No Library

Hi,

As I am due to graduate soon, my academic discount is due to expire as I approach my final probationary year of practical ministry training, so I am looking at upgrading to a new Logos 9 package before expiry of the discount at the end of the month..

I'm looking between Logos 9 Platinum or Diamond. However, I'm wondering whether to add the full feature set on. I do have Faithlife Essentials Connect no library subscription which carried over from the old Logos Now.

Can someone tell me, does that subscription give me everything listed in the 'full feature upgrade' part of the listing for the base packages, as there seem to quite a few useful resources listed in there. Or do I not get these as my sub is a 'no library' sub?

I'm just trying to work out if longer term I'm better getting the full feature upgrade before my academic discount ends, along with the package I decide to go for, or not.

I appreciate any advice.

If you are to be a professional theologian then I recommend remaining on the Connect subscription. The cost will most likely be tax deductable (it is in the UK) and you will always be using the best tools available for your work.

If you are to be an amateur theologian then you must decide on the long-term cost basis (plus what you desire). All hobbies have a 'desire' element unrelated to the actual need.

If you continue with your subscription of Connect, you will continue to have access to all of the features without having to purchase them separately. I also have the same subscription and have personally chosen to keep it due to the low cost I was grandfathered in with.

This is obviously a personal decision but I actually do both. I subscribe to FLEC because of the other benefits like FLTV, 2%, 3 free books. I have always purchased the features because I don't plan to remain a FLEC forever. If you don't purchase the features now, they'll just get more and more expensive as time goes on is my thought.

Is this something you have confirmed directly or is this a sense? Remember you are paying essentially $100/yr for features.

No I have not. I would think as they add more features and you don’t buy them they will only get more expensive via the ownership model. As I mentioned earlier, I stick with connect for the other items

If I understand Mattillo, I don't think you understand. Here is an example.

In year 1, Features A come out
In year 2, Features B come out
In year 3, Features C come out
In year 4, Features D come out

Scenario: User purchases "features A" in year 1, then subscribe to the features in year 2.

If the user tries to purchase the features in year 3, (s)he will pay for the feature sets B&C, but already owns feature set A.
The user would indeed pay more for features in year 4 if they had not paid for them in year 3, simply because (s)he would be paying for features B,C,D instead of just features D.

The point being that the cost to "buy" will seemingly increase with time if you do not purchase simply because you did not purchase in the past. However, consider this:

User ALPHA buys Features A in year 1
User ALPHA buys Features B in year 2
User ALPHA buys Features C in year 3
User ALPHA buys Features D in year 4

My guess is that the cost for user BETA to purchase Features A,B,C,D will be LESS than User ALPHA when you total the amounts in year 1,2,3&4.

My guess is that FL would need to reduce the cost over time to some extent, else the initial "buy in" for some users would be $1,000+ before long.

Does anyone know if the price I'm currently seeing for buying the full feature upgrade will be discounted because of currently having the academic discount, or is it only the regular base package that is discounted?

The price I'm seeing for adding the full feature upgrade with either diamond or platinum is $249.28. I just want to know if that price is likely to jump if I don't buy while I have the academic discount, and then do so later.

If I held off on the full feature upgrade I could stretch to diamond rather than platinum while I still have the academic discount through the end of April, but am a bit concerned that at some point in the future I could be left with my grandfathered connect subscription price increasing significantly, and be left with an extensive Logos library I have built over more than a decade, that I can't use to its potential if I lose these features.

If the full feature is not discounted I'll probably go Diamond, and wait a few months to buy full feature, as am more than happy with my grandfathered price for 'connect' and the other features it brings.

These type of questions can be very tricky because of too many things to juggle. If you don't own ANY features, then it is fairly simply to find out. Just use a different browser and view the same item to see the non-academic price. However, if you own anything already, then "dynamic pricing" will be in effect and no one except FL will be able to help you. I do believe that features are subject to academic pricing, which means that the price would indeed go up.

Look for a blue bar that refers to an academic discount. For confirmation, hover your cursor over "Dynamic sale price" and look at the breakdown.

Thanks for the help guys.

So, it looks as if the academic discount gets me $77 dollars off the full feature set. The academic discount for me on L9 Diamond is like $300, so thinking if it's an either or choice, I'd be better stretching the extra to Diamond, and pick up the full feature set some time later, even if my academic status has expired, as my subscription covers it for now anyways.

Am quite keen on a Diamond for the additional ICC volumes it gets me, as I still need quite a few.
