Commentaries / resources not downloaded on Laptop

I had some problem with update about 2 weeks ago, so I decided to completely uninstall Logos and re-installed it last night. Now I have, fresh on my laptop, Logos 9.3 SR2 (9.3.0.0052).

But I found that commentaries were not downloaded. When I do a Passage Guide, nothing is found. I can find each commentary separately and download it. Same with particular books.

Is there a way of downloading all resources that I own? I am running the software on a laptop (Windows 10), not a mobile device.

    Hi David,

In the library, you can use Ctrl/Cmd+A to select all your resources, and then right click to choose Download.

There is also a filter on the left in the library under Devices for 'Not on this device' which will show you what is not downloaded.

https://blog.logos.com/how-to-download-all-resources-at-once/ has similar instructions with pictures.

Kevin explained what you need to do, but for clarification: When you install Logos, you are presented with two options: 1) a full installation or 2) a skinny installation. You chose the second option, which is why those commentaries didn't download.

    Thank you Kevin!

Hmm... I am new to the concept of leaving some of the resources on the clouds and can see the advantage of it when using mobile devices. Is there any reason for not downloading all resources if I am using a PC (except for lack of space maybe, but I am not having that problem)? I can see that searching might get slower, but on the other hand, when I do research, I like to search what is available to me from all resources I have.

Thought I would ask before I do a "download all". Thanks again for your reply!

On mobile devices - most of the resources stay in the cloud unless specifically downloaded. I’ve just checked and I have just under 350 resources downloaded to the app on my iPad, most of them commentary series I like to have with me even when I am not connected to the Internet.

I think the issue is really to do with space - if you have enough space I would download them all. It presumably takes slightly longer when you need to reindex (if you purchase some more resources for example) but, other than that, I think it should be fine

Search actually does take into account your non-downloaded resources as well with a separate section in the Search panel for hits on non-downloaded resources.

Hi JT, with the latest version, no options were presented. When I searched the internet, that seems to be confirmed too.

I have been using Logos like this for over 15 years now, so I am used to that mode. I think I am going to download all.

Really? I still haven't found it. That would be nice. But right now if I do a Open Passage Study Guide on, say, Matthew 1, it returns no result at all on commentary because I haven't downloaded any. After I downloaded one, it showed only 1 result.

The key here is that the Search panel is not the Passage Guide. Or, more broadly, not all searches are through the Search panel. When it comes to Logos/Verbum, "search" is said in many ways.

The Passage Guide in the desktop version of Logos/Verbum ignores resources that have not been downloaded.

    Where did you see this?

I just saw it this morning.

And since I have only re-installed it recently without downloading my resources, I thought it would be easy for me to uninstall and re-install again just to double check. I ran the LogosSetup file that I got from Logos site, and it gave me the following screens:

    - Screen telling me it is downloading files.

    - Screen (from Windows) asking me if I allow app to make changes.

    - Screen saying it is downloading files.

    - "Prepare to install"

    - Welcome

    - License agreement

    - Asked to choose setup type: typical or custom (I choose typical)

    - Asked to click "Install"

    - "Installing...."

    - Asked to click "finished."

And that's it. It didn't ask me whether I wanted to download my resources.

After the installation, I ran Logos Bible Software. It only asked me to sign in. There is no question about downloading resources or not.

I am all good/set for now. It didn't confuse or bother me much as I am also a computer engineer, but I can see that some users might be a little confused. That's why I am leaving this as a feedback too.

Never mind. I see that you answered that prior to logging in.

Correct. After clicking "Finish", you should have been asked to Sign-in and Logos should have presented a "Download Logos 9 Library" window from where you select one of 2 or 3 sets of resources (e.g. Minimal, Recommended, Full). As a minimum, Logos should then download your Prioritized resources (which would include Commentaries!).

Thank you. It is a known "glitch" but users should still report it to Customer Service.

Does it pop up from time to time, or does it happen consistently?

The former. It can be a server issue and/or it depends on the user's prioritized resources (from memory); which is why they should get onto CS.

At least I have downloaded all my resources, and the indexer is doing its final indexing for the download.

Thank you all for your help!
