How can i see my personal books on my Iphone/Ipad ?
This is a coming feature but not available yet.

Francisco,
At this time one cannot view their personal books in the iOS app. I think Logos is working on this but they have not given a timetable as to when we will see this functionality. I know I am looking forward to it.
Lord bless!

I love Logos, but this is my biggest disappointment with software.

I would love to hear from the Logos folks directly on this myself. It is sort of useless to create personal books and not be able to "take" them with you when you go mobile.

Bob has spoken about this already. The ability to sync personal books, and then view them on mobile, is on their "to do" list. As you can imagine, however, adding all these personal books to their servers will not be an inexpensive endeavor. Some have suggested using third party cloud services… and there are pros & cons for doing so. Either way, we aren't likely to see personal books on mobile until they sync on desktop. If your only need is to be able to read these resources, you can always create a PDF version and view it that way.

I get around this problem by using the Remote Desktop software to access my desktop computer and read through that. It is not an ideal solution but at least I can carry my personal books with me. I also long for the day when it will be available on the iOS.

Interesting solution. A little clunky but sounds like it works. Thanks for sharing.0 -
Welcome to the forums, Alvin! [:)]
I am working on a personal book as I write. It is currently being compiled. I am anxious for my personal books to sync too. I just read a post from Feb from a dev who is working on it. He (wisely) wouldn't give any timetable but assured us that his team was working on it. The good news: They are three months further down the line. [:)]

If you copy all text in a PersonalBook into clippings and create a PDF version from the print menu you will get a PDF with working passage links. Tapping a passage link in the PDF/PB will open the passage in your Logos iOS app.

I guess there are some draw backs when you put everything on a cloud! It would be easier if logos would just a make a way to sync and download things with out using the cloud, like air transfer over your own WiFi router or bluetooth. This way Logos does not need to buy more space from other clouds. You just create a button within the software its self telling it to find your ipad or Android device.

Hey Josh!
The trouble with that solution is that Apple is very strict about how apps can access outside data. It isn't possible for Logos to allow file transfer via WiFi or Bluetooth. There are some apps which can access data via syncing through a wired iTunes connection... But that would be very techie for most users. Also, if users updated the file (recompiled), it could create great problems with highlights & notes. By Logos syncing the file, users are more assured of a good experience.

Alabama, why do you say that Logos can't wifi transfer? There are many apps that do transfer files or sync to desktop software over local wifi. While it could be technically challenging it would be nice to sync with my logos library on my Mac without having to go through an internet connect.
As for the PBB I would really like to be able to see them on my iPad, that way I could do a split screen in the Logos app with the bible and have my PBB with my sermon outline/notes on the other half. This way when I list references I can just tap the reference and have the bible jump to that scripture. I don't like just typing out all my scripture references in my notes because I may expand the reference and then I have to go to a different app (Logos) from the one I'm using for my outline. Jumping back and forth between apps is not really conducive for me and I find myself with a bible and an iPad. I really just want a split screen with the bible on one half and my outline/notes on the other

Not trying to be argumentative… but I don't know of any. What are these apps (iOS only)? Apps like Dropbox don't count (those are cloud based).

Me too. I have nearly 200 personal books, many of which are books normally unavailable in Logos. I do almost ALL of my "reading" via the mobile app… (whereas my "study" or "research" is done on my computer).

I am hesitant to disagree with my Alabama friend this close to football season, but...
While Dropbox may use the cloud in the transfer process, it still transfers from my desktop to my iPad, and puts the file in Kindle or iBooks as I desire. I would count it.
And if that is not good enough, my Comic Zeal app transfers from my desktop to my iPad without the cloud through iTunes. We all transfer music files and photos all the time without the cloud, don't we?
This is not that uncommon, and it is the way I wish Logos would go for Personal Books.
If Logos wanted to get this done, it would have been done long ago. It is just not a priority to Logos. This is a serious drawback to the program.

Hey… watch it now. [:D]
I can't see that we have disagreed yet...

The way that dropbox works is exactly the way Logos is intending to allow PBB sync… that is to say via "the cloud." It absolutely does NOT sync your iPad with your desktop… Rather it syncs your iPad with the cloud, and your desktop with the cloud. It does NOT create a link over wifi directly between your desktop and your mobile device.
Personally, I think that it might have been quicker for Logos to utilize a service like dropbox for the sync… but it might be better for us in the end if they don't. I don't know.

I mentioned this possibility above. I personally don't think it is a great option, but that wasn't what I was asking Stephen about. He had referenced apps which sync data directly between mobile and desktop via WIFI. I am unaware of any apps which do so.
As for the iTunes route… Here are some reasons I don't think it is a great option:
- it is too "techie" for most users. It isn't a simple or elegant approach.
- it would be much easier to create conflicts between various versions of a resource. This would be disastrous for users with notes & highlights.
- it would require the personal books to actually be downloaded to the mobile device… I would much rather have the option of accessing MOST of my personal books online.

Mike Childs: I don't think Dropbox and what Logos plans will be similar at all. I upload a book to Dropbox, sync it to my iPad, THEN DELETE IT FROM DROPBOX'S SERVER. Dropbox just gives me 5 gig of space on the cloud for transferring books and files from my desktop to any program on my iPad. They do not keep a copy on the Dropbox server, unless I choose to. At least that is the way I choose to use Dropbox. If Logos really wanted to do it like Dropbox, they could have had it done a year ago. This is not brain surgery. I really question whether Logos wants to do it at all. It is certainly not a priority for Logos.

Mike Childs: Well, iTunes is successfully used by millions of ordinary low tech folks every day. Are you kidding? Yes, iTunes can be complicated at times, but you can always find a 12 year old to show you how to use it. Besides, iTunes is easier than even simple searching in Logos. Complicated has never discouraged Logos before. ITunes is less complicated than making the personal book in the first place. I don't like iTunes or Apple. But I would love to use iTunes to put my personal books on the iPad.

Mike Childs: My friend, I bet you are in a minority on that. I would much prefer having them on my iPad. But if Logos adopted the Dropbox model, you could do either.
By the way, y'all gonna play any football in Alabama this season? How about my MSU Bulldogs finishing # 2 in the nation in baseball this year? Did ya'll play any baseball in 'Bama land? [;)]
(Always talk smack to Alabama BEFORE the football season. After football season starts, it is too late.)

I think you misunderstood me. I want access to ALL of my personal books on my iPad… just not downloaded. I have downloaded perhaps 60 resources out of 3500 plus. For me, there is no reason to download large portions of my library. I have access to WIFI most places I go. I would want to download the books I am reading at the time, but access the rest online (in the cloud).
By the way, y'all gonna play any football in Alabama this season?
I hope so. If we can get past the first & third weeks of the season, we should be in good shape.
How about my MSU Bulldogs finishing # 2 in the nation in baseball this year?
I was pullin' for y'all. I do too in football… when you're not playing my team. [:D]

The point of PBB is using them on your personal computer be it a MAC or a PC.
FL has analyzed uploaded PBB files and found that most of them are copyrighted works or public domain works that FL plans to 'someday' make as FL resources. [So FL sees PBB as competition to itself] However some of us are importing resources, by the PBB path, that FL will not make into FL resources during our lifetime and maybe never partially because very few of FL current customers want the ones we need and enter as PBB.
One problem is copyrights. FL might be seen by copyright holders as violating their rights as FL would need to store the copyrighted PBB files on their servers to load them on to the mobile devices. [If that is a 'true' reason I do not know why FL still has the upload for PBB files as that transfers the maybe copyrighted PBB files to FL servers already.] [[As long as the file is only on our computer we can at least claim 'fair use'. On their servers it becomes a target for copyright infringement by a party [FL] that has money could be taken by the copyright holder.]]
Another problem is indexing. FL does not do indexing on mobile devices so FL would have to index the PBB before loading them on to the device. That would take way too much time and effort on FL part for the few of us that use PBB. It would cost FL lots of money to index and transfer the PBB files. [[Would you be willing to pay, say, $5 for each and every time you upload and / or download a PBB that you created or modified so that its newest version would show up on your mobile device as a searchable resource? I have 350 PBB including 5 Bibles [incomplete] that are not available in FL]]

I understand it’s nice though when I don’t have to bring my computer to church. I was glad when I was able to stop bringing a backpack full of books Because of logos!

A workaround is to save all of the docx files used to make PBB to PDF files and transfer them to your mobile device.
Many of the PDF aps on mobiles allow searching in addition to reading.
