Suggestion: Set Preferred Resource Language

I know we can prioritize resources. But I’ve noticed that when I follow a link to a resource that is provided multiple languages (original and translations), often it comes up with the original language. Sure, i can track down the translation and prioritize it. But it would be more convenient if we could select a setting to go to the translation in the first place.

Would it be possible to implement this? (As i have no idea what it entails).

Some hyperlinks may be hard linked, which do not allow a choice of resource.  Otherwise, a link will use the resource that you have prioritized for that datatype, irrespective of language and type e.g. a bible reference will use a bible commentary if you did not prefer bibles above commentaries. If you prioritize an English translation of a Septuagint above the Greek Septuagint, then the translation will be used unless you had prioritized an OT resource above that!

it would be more convenient if we could select a setting to go to the translation in the first place.

If you want to use a specific resource you can use its Panel menu to "Send hyperlinks here" OR you can use the Context menu to select a resource from your top five prioritized ones.  Note that the popup box will continue to use the preferred resource.

So there isn't a convenient setting to simplify this i.e. you will have to prefer the translation in your prioritization.

Thanks for the advice. In my case, this usually happens when I’m following the link to a resource I don’t normally use, so I don’t set in advance. I‘d like to see this developed if it is possible to do so.

System "default" prioritization may work for non-bible references, but would you prefer Lightfoot's Apostolic Fathers or Lake's Apostolic Fathers (each have their own translation) assuming that another Apostolic Fathers resource is not preferred?  The software will then have to recognise any "equivalent" version to use your choice of "translation" or "original language".

You will have to prioritize for Bible references, so you may not want the software to recognise "equivalent" versions. For example, the Lexham English Septuagint is a translation of Swete's edition of the Septuagint, so it shouldn't be used as a translation for other Septuagint bibles. But would you want LES for the Lexham Greek-English Interlinear Septuagint: Swete Edition?

You can make a suggestion at https://feedback.faithlife.com/boards/logos-desktop-app, but be very specific about what you mean by "translation" when there are many Bible translations!
