I may be alone in this, but this is my opinion..... an opinion that has sustained since Logos 1.6....

I believe that the Word of God is living and active.., don't we all? The times I have in the Word are supernaturally special. As I study, I believe the Holy Spirit gives me insight, (again, don't we all?). These profound insights (for me) are documented and expounded upon in my Logos notes. My Logos notes document supremely special moments I have with the Lord.
Therefore, it is REALLY important that I don't lose documentation of those moments every time Logo's does an upgrade. An "import notes" function is essential for me...., and I imagine for others as well.

I rarely use notes features within Bible study software for reasons like this.

I have a computer at home and one at the church and keeping notes in sync can be a chore. I have a sync method set up for the Mac version but, alas, it has no notes. Also I have been known to reload frequently and backing up and restoring notes can be a pain. That's one reason I love the sync feature in Logos 4, I think with this I will be using the built-in notes features a lot more, particularly with the ability to write notes on so many areas.

But importing old notes is vital. Logos may have addressed this somewhere else, but I hope there are plans to import notes and such from v3. If notes do have to be dropped from version to version that diminishes their usefulness. But I would really be surprised if Logos does not provide some method, possibly manual, probably automatic, to load old data like that.

Ditto. I would heitate to use notes further if no import feature allowed them to be brought forward from version to version.

Notes are very important for me as Sunday School teacher and seminary student. Also the ability to mark up books. Sure do need to see both along with an import feature

Said it before and I'll say it again...this needs to happen. It doesn't need to be out at the release of 4.0, and I don't need a thumbs up or down tomorrow or I'll go postal, but I would appreciate knowing Logos' position on this one at release. Though I see great promise in the new note section, I would not invest heavily into it unless I knew there was a 3.x to 4.0 converter.

I can't remember where the thread is, or if my memory is playing other tricks on me Philip, but I seem to recall Bob mentioning in another thread that they are "listening" to us on the notes thing and are considering it.

I believe his concern was that the structures are now so different that importing would be able to bring in text but not necesarily things like bold / italics/ numbering etc. would we be able to live with that?

I can't really answer that question because I've only got a few dozen notes in Logos 3 because I have another way of taking notes that works for me.

some problems -- we're using a different rich-text engine, so some
formatting would be lost of messed up. Also, many books are being
re-built for 4.0, which would prevent some (but not all) highlighting
from lining up in the newer resources.

We're open to your feedback on how much you want the important/can live with the imperfections.

I feel the same way, which in essence means that without all the years of notes I have compiled, I could never consider 4.0 my Bible Software. I'm not trying to be contentious, just truthful....

I did remember Bob's comments on this and I know he is listening. I also can understand the difficulties of importing and why Logos would be reluctant to do it (lots of man hours so that a low percentage of users can utilize a tool they create one time, after about 2 years, the tool becomes pretty much useless.). From what I heard from users on the newsgroups Notes were not that popular because, by Bob's admission, they were kept very basic.

Should importation not be provided my reluctance to use the notes would not flow out of my distrust in Logos so much as my acknowledgment of a weakness in the "digital library" concept. The value of those man hours creating the tool must not be measured by how much people will use the tool but by the contribution it makes to the "digital library" concept.

While I do not use the notes feature in Logos (sorry never liked the way it worked and it is more simple in another program I also use) if I couldn't get my notes I would NOT upgrade no matter what. At the very least let user export them to RTF or something.

Because notes written in the old LLS 2.x software were capable of being imported into Series X system, stored and accessed like any Series X note file, I just took it for granted that the same kind of import would go from current version to upcoming version. I never used notes though, just remembered this detail.

I've tried to exploit the NOTES in Logos since the 2.x days but have found it to be quite frustrating.

I will try to say this as nicely as possible with the most positive intention for success in L4 Notes: it looks nicer and friendlier with the toolbar, but the implementation - in actual usage - seems worse than in v.3.

In v. 3 I had resorted to first create my wife in my word process than bring in the rich formatting into Logos notes. I was able to format the hyperlinks with a click of a button.

In v. 4 I can also bring in notes from the word processor, but:

Hyperlinks do not work.
On long notes the focus moves from where I am working to a previous location. It is unbearable. (I'll put up a video to show you what I mean if needed)

ha!!!! I have no idea why I wrote that but I have to admit I need Logos to start spell checking (ahem, spell/grammar check feature request, please) my posts! To the rest, we recently brought in our 6th precious blessing from our God (Psa. 127) and I delivered our daughter (Kerilyn Kanani) at home (in a birthing pool). I purposely wore my Logos Bible Software T-shirt ($1.00) for the event, but alas my oldest daughter forgot to take the "marketing" shot.
