Remember the Thompson Chain Reference Bible.
Is that tool duplicated in Logos somehow? I grew up on that and loved it.
Fact book is all I can think of right now in English, since it is available in Spanish in Logos.

Rick, another company (E4) produced a Logos version years ago, but subsequently lost their rights to sell it (if I am recalling correctly).
It was not a full working Thompson Chain Reference Bible. It contained some (all?) of the material at the back of the TCRB (Bible overview, book introductions, topical chains, etc.), but all the chain references attached to the text of the Bible itself (those side column references) was not included, so much of the benefit of the TCRB was lost.
No other version was ever produced and that version is no longer available.
I found Bibles.

I'm going to make this addition a suggestion. It was way ahead of it's time.
Another one is Dake's Study Bible. It is amazing. I have my dad's who found all TRUTH on the other side of Jordan in 1980. [:)]
Agree the E4 Thompson Chain Reference did not contain all of the material but it actually very usable within Logos if you set up you layout correctly and use it in conjunction with the cited by tool
1. Bible you are studying
2 Cited by Tool including the E4 TCR linked to the 1.
3 E4 TCR
4 Duplicate copy of bible which has send hyperlinks here set to active
1. Current verse is Mt 5:13
2. Cited by Tool showing all topic chains that cite Mt 5:13
3. From 2 I have clicked on the link for the first topic, INFLUENCE, GOOD and this has opened in the E4 TCR
4. As hyperlinks are set to be sent to this duplicate copy of the bible, i do no loose my verse being studied but I can look all the verse I want to from the currently selected topic chain in 3.
That said would love to see the full TCR in Logos but this works reasonably well for now. It's a shame its no longer available to others.
doc, that's very helpful. If I ever knew to do the set-up that way, I have certainly forgotten.
Cited by Tool is one of the less talked about tools, so is easy to overlook for layouts like this one. I am sure there are plenty of things I have forgotten over the years Mark, that you have reminded me of from time to time.
The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge will often lead to similar sets of references. It is more complete than the Thompson Chain Reference Bible. It has a topic number index (which Thomas Nelson Publishers left out of the digital edition available in Logos (without consulting me, the author, before they made the decision).
If you use the TCRB in conjunction with the New Treasury you will usually get more complete results.
THANK YOU Jerome for pointing me in this direction. I didn't realise the way to use this. I love the concept on how to use it. Bless you.
I still have and use my NIV 1983 Thompson Chain Bible. The WORDsearch Bible program also has the Thompson Chain Reference included in it.
So does A company
No doubt you are very familiar with NTSK as it’s editor along with other cross reference tools, and it is an excellent Bible Study help.
Sometimes less is more depending upon the depth of study one wants to undertake and that’s where I find TCR useful. And I turn to my print NIV TCR for a lot of material not found in the legacy cross reference tool in Logos and other cross reference tools in Logos. And layout presented does work well with all of these cross reference tools.
I am though not trying to take away anything from the your work on the NTSK. It is a must have tool in ones Bible Study tool kit.
It is surely true that "less is more" in many circumstances. I was acutely aware of this issue when working on the New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge. That is one reason I employed symbols with the references. The most important references have a special symbol that marks them so that when, for example, I am teaching a Sunday school class where there is not time to consult all the references, I take care to share those. When I have used Nelson's Cross Reference Guide to the Bible, I have occasionally been caught with a long set of cross references. Since there are no emphasis markings in the NCRG I was required to go by memory to share the clearest or most crucial ones when teaching. I learned fast that I personally greatly prefer having those symbols at hand to guide my use of the references while teaching. My newest venture has been a great expansion of the cross references in a work titled The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury. It has over 900,000 cross references. I have often found that "More is better" when digging more deeply into a subject of interest. This resource is in digital format but is exclusively available only with the e-Sword Bible software. Among its many important new features is a more complete accounting of the provisions of the Abrahamic and the Davidic Covenants.
Compared to the Thompson Chain Reference Bible, my New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge and my Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury provide references for many verses left untouched by the TCRB and many other resources.Nevertheless, I too enjoy the format and content of the Thompson Chain Reference Bible and always highly recommend its use to others.
That is one reason I employed symbols with the references.
I'd be interested in your feedback on SUGGESTION: Win-win for a new note feature - legend and abbreviations
Always good to hear from Authors. Thanks for your comment. I had heard of your new Ulimate resource but wasnt sure if it’s digital availability - now I know.
During my college days I used a Bible with the Thomson Chain reference system. I could not find this in Logo 8. However, I did find it in WordSearch 12 which I use for a Bible study. I use WordSearch 12 with Logos 8 for an in depth study. You cannot teach a old dog new ticks.
During my college days I used a Bible with the Thomson Chain reference system.
Can someone explain what the Thompson Chain reference system did? I have never seen one....
The Thompson Chain Reference Bible links Bible topics from Genesis to Revelation. The topics are identified in the margin of the Bible with a reference to the next verse in the chain. Each topic is given its own number. In the back of the Bible is an index by number to the topics. It is a very well-done Bible study resource. If, for example, you are reading Genesis 3:15, the topic Messianic Prophecies is given in the margin (with the number 2890, and the next reference is given as Genesis 12:3). The topics at Genesis 3:14 are given as 3153 Satan Job 1:6; 903 Divine Curse; 3152 Satan Humbled Zec 3:2; 1170 Abasement (1) Job 40:12.
Logos has a TCR of sorts. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for the goad.

If you go to the scripture index in the back, you can pull up a similar list of what the TCR has right alongside a verse. This is a bit cumbersome to do but can be rewarding. I just opened it in a floating panel now with the TOC alongside and it can get you lots of information. Praise the Lord![8-|]
Brought back old memories, as the gift of a Thompson Chain Reference Bible was greatly helpful to me early in my study/ministry. Even though the Thompson Chain Reference Bible isn't for sale in Logos, The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge is a very similar type resource and I have found it to be very helpful - along with the old Nave's Topical.
Hi
I still have the Thompson Chain Reference Bible cd
some of the books found in my library

I'm so very fortunate to still have my Thompson Chain Reference Bibles. I have two: KJV 1964 Edition 66th Printing by B.B. Kirkbride in Pristine Condition that I purchased in the mid-70's new, and a 1978 NIV Version, June 1983 Printing by B.B. Kirkbride and Zondervan, which preceded the 1984 version. I read the NIV through every 90 days, using the 90-Day Bible Reading Plan, which approximates 12-14 pages a day. It's hard to find these Bibles, and I'm so glad that I didn't "upgrade" to a new model (of which some I do not care for).
Interesting....Thanks
Was given a KJV from my home church when I graduated from High School before going off to Bible College and entering the ministry.
How does it work?? Say you are reading through Romans 2. TCR suggests a theme of "Universality of Sin" #3340
A student then flips to the back of the Bible and is provided with several verses on this topic surrounded by similar topics.
I also got a TCR KJV Bible after high school. Sadly, the binding quality was poor and it didn't last long. I decided to make a chain reference of my own in a notebook. The project didn't get too far off the ground, so I think it is time to have the TCR's in Logos.
I’m glad I have it in Logos, at least the Spanish version: https://es.logos.com/product/55132/notas-de-la-biblia-de-referencia-thompson
The English version I own in WORDsearch and Accordance.
I have it in the Olive Tree app. I think I might be using it wrong in Swordsearcher, but I only see the topics listed in the dictionary area, and don't know how to find the chain for a verse.
The chain reference system is added in the bible in two places. it is a Topic not a word search index. so for example "seek the Lord" could be included under prayer even though the word prayer is not in the verse.
ONE In the back there is an index of topics which has the full verses printed under each topic section. this is 190 pages long in my bible. its really great for quickly seeing some verses relevant ot a topic.
TWO The CHAIN part is that the bible is printed with the relevant chain references printed on either side of the two central colums of scripture. the chain reference shows the topic and the next verse in the bible linked to this topic. so you can follow the chain as you flick thru the bible.

Well, for those in Logos who've waited for the Thompson Chain Reference Bible in vain, the acquisition of WordSearch by Logos should soon make it available to anyone who wants it.
That is awesome news.
I can't wait to have them in Logos. Coming from WordSearch, I have it there still, but I also have a hardcover "Centennial edition" that I teach from and a "Large Note/ Wide Margin Edition" Desk volume that I have never seen another copy of (measures 8 1/2 inch by 11 inches, 2 1/4 inch thick. The Margins around the text are 1 and 1/2 inch all around, and yes alot of those margins are full of my own notes)
its easier to watch videos that show how a Thompson chain reference works
there are two parts 1 beside the text of the bible and 2 a topical index at the back

I was in WS.... Today my TCR books show "In Progress".... so maybe soon... Yep, yep, yep... maybe soooon. [:P]
I thought this was going to come back out with WordSearch and now I can't find it anywhere save the Spanish edition.
My understanding is that Zondervan now owns the TCR. Is this going to be long gone toast again?
For those of us who had it in WS, it is coming. I have about half of the Thompson resources in LOGOS at this point:
My understanding is that Zondervan now owns the TCR.
From Wikipedia...
"On December 3, 2020, HarperCollins Christian Publishing announced its acquisition of the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible product assets from Kirkbride Bible Company."
Right. They are being published by Zondervan. I suspect this might be a bit of a sticky widget for FL in terms of rights. I know I pre-ordered it but it disappeared and FL said nothing to us. Not really proper to do that.
I know I pre-ordered it but it disappeared and FL said nothing to us. Not really proper to do that.
I agree whole-heartedly!
It's still showing as Available in the WS migration list for those of us that owned it, although I really don't know how much that counts.
https://www.logos.com/wordsearch/library-migration
I got an email promising fulfillment of TCR to WordSearch owners this week. But nothing promising fulfillment to Logos users who in good faith put a preorder in for it. I know there is an issue, but Logos has the means to do the right thing.
I certainly don't mind paying more for this reference if they would just get on with it and get this into Logos for everyone who wants it. Let's find a way to do it.
Remember the Thompson Chain Reference Bible. Is that tool duplicated in Logos somehow? I grew up on that and loved it.
Now available for Pre-Pub at a significantly discounted price! https://www.logos.com/product/217074/thompson-chain-reference-library
Total value if sold separately:$95.88 and I already own it. Thanks, WS & FL.
The best part is I got the Spanish Logos edition for $14 and change if I’m not mistaken. Now I can compare them side by side and quote them with proper bibliography 👍😁👌
Great😎
