Highlighting Shortcut Keys: Need Delete Highlight Shortcut

I am probably one of the biggest fans of the introduction of the highlight shortcut keys. I make extensive use of highlighting and the shortcut keys make the process tons quicker.
However, it is very easy to inadvertently make a highlight (or accidentally make the wrong highlight). And there is no way (that I know of) to quickly delete a highlight without opening the highlight panel and manually clicking the delete button.
Can you either
- make the "delete" button the default shortcut key for the delete highlight function OR
- allow us to assign a custom key for the delete highlight function

You can press Ctrl+Shift+K to delete a highlight (if text still is selected).

Or if you select it subsequently.

Yeah, but it's such a difficult key-combo (requires the use of my mouse hand) that a custom shortcut would be welcome.
