Thompson Chain Reference
Just got the Thompson Chain Reference Releases added to my library after a long wait. The first thing I noticed is that there are no marginal notes. Am I missing them? If they are indeed missing this seriously hampers the TCR workflow as it existed in WordSearch. Can someone help me?

You should see the marginal notes this morning. They were supposed to be available yesterday with the rest of the titles but got hung up.

The Thompson Chain resources have been eagerly awaited by former WS users and others.
I owned the set in WS (don't recall how I acquired it; probably came in some kind of bundle sale), but I haven't used it.
Can someone please clue us in how to make good use of this set of resources? E.g. Which of the 12 "Thompson Chain" titles to start with? How are they linked or not linked together? (Judging from the word "Chain" in the name, I assume they are somehow all linked...?)
Thanks,
PL

The reference chains are in the Topical Index resource (LLS:WS_58E1B952CB1745B4B3351F99D0B0C0E5). The "Marginal Notes" resource (LLS:WS_3C0195FCB29242B48278ACE059731DC1) is indexed by bible and will provide the link from your bible to the chain index. Thus you'd put this latter resource into a link set with your preferred bible and it will show you the chain links associated with a verse you're studying. Clicking the link of its number will then open the topical index with the whole chain, from where you may go to another verse in your bible that belongs to the same chain.
Have joy in the Lord!

Thanks for getting me started, NB.
When I click on a topic from the Marginal Notes, it opens the Topical Index, but always opens to its copyright page, not to a specific topic. Is this correct? Am I missing a setup step?

I don't see the Thompson Chain Reference on the Logos store, and it's not appearing in my library. What am I missing (besides the Thompson Chain Reference, obviously)?

It is not on the store yet for whatever reason. Did you own Wordsearch? Is it in your list of resources here https://www.logos.com/wordsearch/library-migration?

Never owned WordSearch. Hopefully it hits the store.

No, when you click on the Topic Number (link) it "Should" open up that topic in the Topical Index (see pic).
As far as maybe missing something, I did notice that The "Series" tag as set by Faithlife for each of the Thompson Chain Reference resources were not all the same. Check to be sure that both the Margin notes and the Topical Index resource are set to be in the same series.
I edited mine.

Hi PL,
The key to using the Thompson Chain resources is the Marginal Notes. Link the Marginal notes to your biblical text or use Multiview. As the resources follows your bible you get links to most of the other resources providing a list of verses related to the topic and the verse you are studying. The marginal notes provide links to: Topical Index, Archeological Supplement, Outline Study Series, Bible Book Outlines and Harmony and Illustrations. The atlas and Photos are stand alone resources. I put the three kid's resources in the cloud as I do not use them and they are not linked to the marginal notes.
The Chain Reference Companion elaborates on various verses and is not tied to the marginal notes. you can open and link it to your bible as well, but it is not nearly as extensive as the marginal notes.
There you have a summary. Here are a few screen shot of all the resources mentioned just for reference from Matt 1.1. Note the resources on the top left change with the links from the marginal notes.
Hope this helps.

The resources you have in the upper left panel do not change with my selection in the Marginal Notes. When I try to link them, the resource turns into another Marginal Notes tab.
Thanks

I have this happen a lot of times. It seems that Logos is "touchy" and will often do that. If that mouse moves even a little bit as you click the button the link will open in a new tab. Try making sure (or as sure as you can) to not move the mouse before you click the button. Yea, it *IS* annoying but for me, I just try to deal with it.

Hopefully it hits the store.
Why is it not yet in the store? And when will it be in the store?

We don't know and FL doesn't comment on these things too often. It is my understanding that FL has never sold this resource. It is coming over into Logos via the WordSearch acquisition... but that does not mean that it will be sold by FL.
There may be a licensing reason why it is not being listed.

The only resource you link are the marginal notes and the companion resource to your bible text. The links from the marginal notes determine which resource it is linking too. You do not want to link the other resources. I only included all the resources in one layout for demonstration. The correct resource will open from the marginal note links.
Much of this is already available in Logos if you open a Topics section in the Passage guide and link it to your biblical text.
Hope this helps.

Additionally the Topical Index can be used similar to Nave's if you want to study a particular subject.

Is it possible to buy it through WordSearch and then migrate it into Logos?

Please excuse my confusion. I also ask that I don't waste time trying in vain, the Thompson Chain References is not included in Logos by default.
How do I get the Thompson Chain References?
1. can I buy them somewhere?
2. does it come in the Logos Store?
3. will it be given as a gift on request? :-)
4. ?Please forgive me for asking like this. But I don't want to have the bacon pulled through my mouth any longer, with a big disappointment at the end! :-)

Othmar,
Logos Bible Software (Faithlife) does not currently offer the Thompson Chain Reference Bible for sale.
About a year ago Faithlife purchased WordSearch Bible software. That company did offer it for sale. When Logos made the purchase they also made a commitment to provide (make available) as much of the old WordSearch library as they legally could.
The discussion about Thompson's here is mostly in regard to providing that resource to those old WordSearch customers who had already purchased it through WordSearch.
It has been asked many times here if Logos will sell Thompson's sometime in the future. That question has not been answered by anyone from Logos to the best of my knowledge.
Can you buy it somewhere? Not for Logos Software that I am aware of. There was a 3rd party company that at one time did offer it for sale to work with Logos but that option is no longer available.
There is at least one Bible software company that I am aware of that offers it for sale in Spanish. Due to forum rules I won't mention the companys name but a google search will turn that up.
No it is not available from the Logos store.
As a gift? Not until it can be sold through normal channels.
Please note I am no one who can speak in any official capacity for Logos Software/Faithlife.

Many thanks for the clarification!
But it would still be very nice if it were officially available soon. [:D] In English is ok, but I don't understand Spanish at all. But preferably in German.

Also Logos offers t in Spanish https://www.logos.com/product/55132/notas-de-la-biblia-de-referencia-thompson
I don't know Spanish, but that book is is my wish list. I assume I can use the links if needed. At times it may need some deciphering, but for those
who enjoy detective stories it will do. Below a picture for those who enjoy hillbilly life in the deep forest:

I was not a WordSearch customer, and I was able to preorder the Thompson Chain and received the standard preorder email.

I think the Thompson Chain Reference Series would be a help to anyone's repertoire of study books. Once set up and learned how to use them, they are a great help. I have enjoyed them for a long time.
Just my 2 cents....
