What are the advantages of the desktop app over an iPad? What can you do on a desktop that you cannot do on iPad?
Hi Michael
If you want to get something of a feel for the Desktop App. Set Safari to run the Web App while your iPad is Screen Mirroring to a good sized TV or monitor. It still won't be the same as the Desktop App but you will experience a little of the Desktop 'feel'.
Things such as:
I'm sure I've missed a lot of obvious things but hopefully that gives a flavour.
Awesome, thanks Graham. Yes that is very helpful.
In February of 2021 I moved from my iPad to a 13.3 in. Dell XPS laptop. It's small enough to use instead of a tablet while waiting in the car as my wife shops or in a medical office. It has the HUGE advantage of containing not only all the functionality Graham mentions but also my entire library. It's the best thing I could have done with my stimulus check (being blessed already with daily bread in spite of the pandemic).
Another key difference for some people is that the desktop app allows you to work with your personal books but the iPad app doesn't.
The great joy for me is that when I am working on my desktop, whatever references I've been opening are readily visible in my iPad library. This gives me some real momentum if I happen to be away from my desktop app. This is especially true for commentaries and whatever other book I am trying to work through.
Logos on iPad is very cool!
Thanks Steve. This is very helpful and good advice. I will probably go with it. I use my iPad when I am in church or if I want to sit on my couch (my office is downstairs). There is definitely a big advantage of a laptop over an iPad but up till now I have felt that a laptop is too big to cart around with me. I think your suggestion may be what I need.
How much memory should I look for in a laptop for my Logos library?
Check out the system requirements here: Logos Minimum System Requirements – Logos Help Center

Make sure you get a Solid State Drive (SSD). That is THE number one requirement! And the minimum requirements that just that, minimum. I would get at least 32GB RAM also.

Hello, Michael, For "carting around" I have an "Ace Slim Brief" with "Fully padded compartment" that "fits 11" - 13>3 " Chromebooks/Laptops" from www.solo-ny.com
Thanks Steve. I have contacted them about shipping to Canada. How long does the battery on your Dell XPS typically last?
Good morning, Michael. I'm disappointed in the time between charges. I haven't really timed it, but it seems to be only a few hours. I have "Battery Saver" on, but then I turn around and sync anyway. You can tell I really don't know what I'm talking about on length of charge.[:(] But I do know this is the best tech purchase I've made to date (age 85; almost 20 good years with Logos).

Thanks Steve. I am not surprised. In my experience most laptops do not have a long battery life. However newer laptops tend to have a longer battery charge time than older laptops that I have owned. https://www.cnet.com/pictures/cnet-labs-laptops-and-hybrids-with-the-best-battery-life/6/ lists Dell XPS 13 9370 (2020) battery charge time at 686 minutes, or 11 hours, 26 minutes.
Michael, one option to consider is a hybrid approach. I leave my desktop on all the time, and use my iPad Pro to remote into my desktop to use the full power of Logos.

While this is generally true beware of quoted times if you start streaming worship services or airplaying videos etc you will find that the charge drops dramatically.
Thanks Justin

Thanks Mike. Yes I totally agree. Expected battery time certainly depends on the your useage.
Will Logos be available on a new iPad Pro with the M1 in a desktop version?
There are no plans and you should have no expectations of such when making this purchase. Conversely, the mobile app does work on an M1 desktop.
