Any thoughts on what is the best tablet for using Logos / Verbum. I have an older iPad 9.7 inch at the moment. Verbum often crashes. I have an Android phone. So my question is, for a table type device, what best, what are some of the headaches:

Android tablet

iPad

Surface Go

Greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Richard.

Surface Go (Windows) is the only tablet that you could run a full desktop version of Logos/Verbum on it.

I've not had Logos crash on an iPad. What iOS version? Verbum version?

Have you used the Report a bug feature to send the iPad's crash logs to Faithlife? Might be worth determining why it's crashing, and if there's a fix for what you're experiencing.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

If you want the same OS as your Android phone, you may want to consider the latest Samsung tablet, the S4.

I have an iPad Pro and iPad mini, and both function flawlessly.

The Surface Go runs the full desktop version of Logos, but I'd only consider the one with 8GB of RAM and the faster 128GB SSD. It won't be as fast and fluid as the iPads, though.

Latest version of both the iOS and Verbum. Verbum open, tap change resource, select KJV, RSVCE, and crash. Have not tested further. But agreed generally it is as solid as a rock.

Yes, that is what I am thinking also. But I was hoping to get the greater features of the Windows desktop version on a 10 inch-ish tablet, rather than my 14 inch radiant heat source tablet. My kids are constantly doing their homework on the desktop PC. Darn, thety need to be less diligent with homework!

    Hi

    I have a

    Samsung Galaxy TAB S2 8.0 T710 with a 128 sd card

I use this every day with the logos Android app

The Android app is getting better over time. Just wish the book resources would go onto

    the sd card,

This tablet is amazing with the logos Android app

While it is a bit bigger, the Lenovo X1 Tablet is what I use and it runs Logos full version beautifully.

If you are on a budget a Galaxy Tab S2 9.7" runs Logos well 8 cores 1.9Ghz.  You can pick one up fairly cheaply on e-bay.

I have just bought one from ebay based on the recommendation of both Michael and you and am very happy with it. Looks like new apart of scuff marks around the charging connector. I am just organising an epub reader and a music version of my church hymnal for it. I was getting so frustrated using Logos on my One plus 3T phone!

  • I'm late to the party. Looking at the Samsung Tab A7 Lite at Costco. From what I've read 32 gigs won't cut it because the OS takes 17 gigs. Looks like it will be great for ebooks, but ... I assume I will not be able to load Logos onto it. Is that right? I have never had a tablet and my Note 8 is just too small for old eyes. I need a tablet small enough to hold in one hand. I will only be using it for Logos, Google ebooks and Word. Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

You would still be able to load Logos on it - the app takes less than 1GB.

You would not be able to download many resources but the app is designed to work with most of its resources not on the device but on Logos servers (you need good Internet access for this to work).

Please note the mobile apps do not provide the full functionality of the desktop app

  • Thanks. You're right, I was thinking what it would take to load all my logos my resources. Have a good day.

Have you considered trying one of the latest Amazon Fire Tablets? They have an 8 inch and 10 inch models. I tried one for a couple of weeks - just because I was inquisitive. It worked very well and the price was really good. I did send them back because my preference is my desktop PC for Logos and a 6inch phone for quick look ups. I was surprised how good they are and I believe you get 4 years of security updates (someone confirm that). I preferred the 10 inch over the 8. But it is all about use cases. Can but try and ret8if not satisfied.

  • Thank you Richard, but I get most of my extra books from https://www.monergism.com/ and Google Books. It is my understanding Amazon only works with Amazon books. I forget what ebook I had to buy from Amazon a few years ago, but I had to download a very old Kindle software and then jump through hoops with Calibre to get it to work. Yes, I like, no, I love Logos on my laptop where I have to do all my reading now because ctrl + a couple of times makes everything readable, lol. It would be so nice to be able to read on a hand held device on our tiny porch. Yes, Amazon is great for returns. Thanks for your response. I'm still looking.

I am even later to the party, but I am interested in this subject.

What tablet works best for Logos?

My seminary is switching to a Logos platform... a few months after i bought a Kindle paperwhite.

Kindle and Logos ( faithlife) do not play well together. Amazon stopped letting faithlife be accessible on Kindle for free and faithlife refuses to re-adress the situation, stating that Amazon has to initiate contact before they will address it.

Since Amazon is too big to go to faithlife and initiate contact and faithlife refuses to try from our end, a different alternative must be found.

So, I need to know what non-IOS tablet to buy.

Papers, word studies, and other heavy lifting will be on the computer, but reading will primarily be on the tablet.

    Any Suggestions?

    Anything to avoid?

All suggestions and assistance is valued.

I am very satisfied with Surface Pro 8 .

The Pro 7 also works great and is fairly cheap.  The benefits is a full windows OS.

Just for clarification, you didn't say why not iOS devices. If it's you prefer not, that's fine.

But you also didn't say which computer you're using.  I switched over to the BMP (Mac) and it's really quite convenient moving between the computer and my iPad (automated transfers).

I also use multiple FL mobile apps, which allow grouping my needs (eg reading, and a mini-research platform for quick checks).

Since you do not want an Ipad, If money is not an issue I suggest getting the newest Samsung Galaxy Tab so that you can use it through seminary and for a couple of years after that. If it is an issue, you can check out the Samsung A8 or S6 lite. If you like Chromebooks, there are ChromeOS tablets as well. The Lenovo Duet is one. Using one of these, you can run the Logos web app or you can download the Android Logos mobile app.

I hate to say it but my preferred tablet for Logos would be an iPad. That's coming from some who has deleted his Apple account and vowed never to enter the Apple infrastructure again (this was over some really poor customer service that probably only impacts one in a million Apple customers). Logos works really well in that platform.

With Android 12L the experience of Android apps on tablets should be much better, but it's not fully here yet. Also Amazon is updating the core of it's FireOS to a much newer version of Android, so that will improve functionality. Only here on the 7 inch tablet at the moment I believe.

I would agree with one of the other posters that the Samsung S series are the best at the moment, though expensive. Google will be bringing out a new Pixel tablet at some point in the near-ish future, but it is not here yet. Other manufacturers do not provide consistent security updates to their Android tablets. I was impressed by the latest Kindle Fire 10.1 tablet, great price also.

    Hope that helps.

    Richard.
