Final Desktop Update for Offline Mode
I would like it if Faithlife could eventually release one final update to WS12 that would allow the program to run without signing into a Wordsearch/Lifeway account, essentially allowing the program to be run in offline mode.
This way, once the Wordsearch/Lifeway server functionality is eventually broken in WS12, if one needed to run WS12 on a machine for some critical functionality (access to a book or feature that doesn't make the Logos transition), one could install the engine, restore WS12 from a local backup, and install their library from a local backup.
I have all the WS12 files backed up where I could easily recover WS12 from a local backup for years to come, provided that the day the Wordsearch/Lifeway server functionality switch off doesn't break the app. If there's a way to provide a final update allowing WS12 to be fully run in offline mode, that'd allow it to run decently for years to come for those needing legacy access.
Thanks!
Dr. Nathan Parker

I'm in the same boat but with WordSearch 9, 10 & 11. I went to purchase 12 and it was no longer available due to the transistion.
I was looking to see if they had a way to get our libraries on disk for the eventual replacement of a system. I never did learn about how to back everything to restore if in case of a new system or new operating system installation and am not exactly sure what to do.
I prefer Wordsearch over Logos, mainly due to all of the Rabbit Trails that Logos take you on when you are trying to even jusr READ from two or three different translations. I guess I'm spoiled. I havve a certain way that I have Bibles, Dictionairies & Concordances set up that I cannot seem to duplicate with Logos. It takes too much time away from actually being able to read or study.
If you know of any links to show how to back up our libraries or steps in what to do, please share them. When I trie to look, I usually end up spending all of my time sorting through so much material that doesn't apply.
Take Care and Thanks in Advance,
Keith Hailey

Greetings Keith and welcome to the forums.
If you post a screenshot of your Wordsearch layout we may be able to advise you on the best way to duplicate the functionality.
Best to start a new thread probably in the desktop forum.

I never upgraded to WS12, but WS11 has a backup option

Thanks for the reply. I've seen that but never really checked it out or how to use it. Hopefully, the WordSearch videos are still on YouTube. Seems like I saw something on it there.
Thanks again for the reply!

Thanks for the response.
I Use WS10 & 11 (Occasionally 9) which are all fully licensed. I switch between the two according to what I am doing.
The Bible versions are run as groups with the CJB as the group driver. It's similar to a parallel Bible, when you are on a verse in the Driver version, all versions are at the corresponding Passage. Really fast with minimal time lost with finding things and very few "Rabbit Trails" to divert your attention.

The backup/restore option does backup all our WS book licenses and settings, but it looks like in WS12, it required being logged into a Lifeway account to unlock all the features of WS12, otherwise it'd run in Basic mode.
Since Faithlife and Lifeway has shut off the server that handles that, if something ever happens to my copy of Wordsearch to sign out, it'll bump me down to Basic mode (unless there's a cookie file or some file I can manually backup).
Hence my request for the final update to ensure WS12 could run fully in Offline mode (basically they'd make the WS12 engine free for all WS users who need legacy access to it and remove the login requirement for all the WS features), but it doesn't look like that will happen unfortunately.

In this video on WS10 (Lifeway days) at about 5:16 https://youtu.be/uurh8ojCaiM?t=316
There is an option to install from Library Disk and a number to order the disks. I wonder if Logos is going to honor that or if we are going to have to figure out a way to make one on our own.
I mean, WS 10 take up 57.1 Mb plus 1.4 Mb in the appdata/local folder , WS 11 takes up 56.7 Mb +301 Kb in the app local, the entire library, used by both, takes up 2.4 Gb. Compare that to Logos, weighing in at 8.4 Gb on the hard drive and all the other stuff it does online. Logos on my newest, fasted computer is blown away by WORDsearch on my oldest and slowest computer.
I did know about the back up and restore in the options menu but I think that's for credentials, personal books, documents and such. I wonder if I could save all of the proper folders on DVD, do an install, then a restore.

Like This?
Once the layout is created, you can save it as a named layout.

Named Layout. I'll see what I can do with that. Thanks.
My problem is that, I'm used to everything in WORDSearch being synced together to the resources that I specify. I mean, I can turn on the Strongs Numbers in a Bible, and either over over the number and use a pop up or click on it and it opens it in Strongs right there. Open Commentaries follow along in the chapter and verse that you are at. The Bibles can be grouped with a particular one that is used as the "Driver" and all of the other Bibles in the group follow along. And setting up a bible as the "Target", any links to other passages open in that particular Bible (possibly even in another group with that Bible being the group driver, and the Bibles in that group all follow the driver) without losing your place in the main Bible that you are using.
With Logos, I've had it set up right (Like you have it) but when clicking on something, a single word, a verse or even by accident, rather just using the resources that I have open, Logos opens up all sorts of other stuff that I didn't ask for, some "Fact" something or other, recommended resources, ads for resources that I don't own and all sorts of other things that messes everything up and takes up too much time.
Thanks for your effort and your response. I haven't given up on Logos, because a lot of it may be "Operator Headspace", not knowing the program that well. It seems like, when I open Logos, I spend to much time trying to figure out how to deal with the program and end up not getting any study, research or actual reading done, and spend Way too much time on rabbit trails that, though very ineresting, had nothing to do with what main objective was when I started.
Take Care and Thanks again.

If you put all your resources in the same linkset, I think you'll get the action you're looking for.
You will notice that all resources in the Bible/Dictionary layout are in "Link set E"

Cool. There may be hope for me yet.
I'm playing around with a messed up washing machine right now but I'm definately going to look into that later this evening.
Link Sets.
There is so much new & different stuff that it's sort of like being on the "Pink Isle" in the Walmart toy section, Christmas shopping. I can't see the toys for all the colors. Sensory overload!
Thanks again! That's a great help.

I am in the same boat. I installed Wordsearch 12 on a different computer and now I cannot open Wordsearch because it prompts me to sign in. This doesn't work anymore, I get it. But is there not a way to run Wordsearch in an "offline mode"?
What file can I change to remove this "sign in" prompt and get to the program?

If you have an old install, copy C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Wordsearch 12 and C:\ProgramData\WORDsearch\Global Data\LocalLogins.db3
If you don't, try this:
The login info is stored in C:\ProgramData\WORDsearch\Global Data\LocalLogins.db3
The file can be viewed/edited with sqlitebrowser.org
Fill in the user ID with a 5 digit number 12345
Add user@email.com in the email fields
Folder name was my name as firstlast
Also add the USER ID as ActiveUserID=12345 in C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Wordsearch 12
That worked for me.

That's it. The LocalLogins.db3 file was it. Thank you. I can now use Wordsearch12 on my new computer.
