Timeline Dataset Formatting, Sorting, Order, Chronological, Biblical, and Other Ideas

This Timeline Dataset resource has a lot of potential, but it lacks formatting in many ways.

I see there has been a lot of discussion on the forum about wishes to make it more useful for years

Having a computer program try to arrange the optimal order of many events based on

frequency of being mentioned in books
filling up white space

This just doesn’t work to sort out which events should be displayed in which order vertically

Also there are many anti-biblical events listed as facts

There should be an option to filter based on Young Earth vs Old Earth beliefs, or literal interpretation vs non-literal interpretation of the Bible.

Many have mentioned the idea to have different sections for different types of data, rather than having a computer algorithm mash it all together based on prioritization of frequency and filling white space.

It looks like FaithLife went for high quantity of events, rather than high quality of presentation

Maybe better would be to publish existing timelines like this wall chart that could be photoshopped into a long timeline and more useful in Logos

I wholeheartedly second an upgrade on the timeline. I also would love it if in the Facebook or Biblical Person study you could hyper-link to the timeline & vice-versa. That is my biggest frustration is trying to search out people on the time-line & get a visual. Specifically thinking of looking at the reign of kings & the prophets associated with each of them & figuring out the contemporaries, as well as the view of the kings between Judah & Israel.

It would be great if the nice format and presentation below had links to Bible passages, persons names, periods of time.

Maybe it would not take too much effort to index all the searchable Names, Places, periods of time, and major Bible passages in this image, similar to how maps in resources have anchors and indexes.

Maybe other indexes already exist that could be leveraged and built to this format at a low cost.

Logos has books of maps from this publisher that are indexed and searchable, and I love to search them frequently. But this timeline has not been added as a resource.

Maybe this would be viewed as competition to their current timeline, but I would view it as an alternate timeline useful for a quick reference, rather than the ultimate reference and research tool that the current tool offers.

I made a personal book with a photo of this timeline by Rose Publishing

It has no searchable indexing, but it is handy when I don't have my big wall chart nearby.

I took a photo with my 24 megapixel DSLR camera and edited it in Adobe Lightroom.

Pasted it into a Word docx and maximized the size on a page

Added a bit of text "Bible Timeline" at the top of the Word Document (otherwise Logos won't load it)

Created an small size jpg for the icon

Went into Logos, Tools, Personal Books, added a book, with icon, built the book, and here is how it looks.

The actual resolution is better than what you see here on the forum. The forum resolution is lower than I have in my Personal Book.

Maybe others will find this homemade solution helpful

I still think it would be better with a searchable index by Logos, but for now this works.

This more zoomed in image shows a little better how good the resolution is in Logos Personal Books.

The actual resolution is better than what can be loaded to the forum.

I used a tall tripod, a sharp lens, and a 24 megapixel DSLR camera to get a sharp resolution photo. I avoided areas with glaring light to minimize flares on the shiny laminated surface, and then edited out remining flares in photoshop by combining my 2 best images without flares in different places.
