Most Important Hardware Spec

I’m going to be buying a new MacBook Pro and I’m trying to decide what specs to get for it. From a Logos standpoint how should I prioritize the specs I’m getting? Should processor take precedent over Ram or Ram over processor? Any thoughts? Since all versions come with the ssd I don’t think that’s a big concern.

Sorry if this has been asked before. I tried searching but couldn’t find anything immediately.

    1. SSD

    2. SSD

    3. SSD

    Right. If they didn’t all come with an SSD that would be part of the discussion. But since they all have that which other spec should be prioritized?

    1. SSD  >= 500 GB

    2. Processor -->  buy what you can afford for M1 Pro 2021! Intel i7 would be fine for the Pro 2020.

    3. RAM  16 GB

    In the past I purchased the PC not on the CPU power, but more on the HD rpm (72000 vs. 5400 (yes I thougth about the 10000 SCSI, but this was to expensive)), FSB (front side bus 533 vs. 400), speed of the RAM etc. as the CPU can only  work what he gets on information per second.

    I was yesterday in an Apple Store. I have tested how fast the new MacBook Pro are. The new SSD is stunning fast. (up to 7.4GB/s.)

    If I had the money right now I would take the new MacBook Pro with the smallest M1 Max. As this CPU has the fastet memory. (Apple's Pro chip also provides 200GB/s memory bandwidth, while the Max chip delivers up to 400GB/s. The memory bandwidth of the M1 Max is 2x that of the M1 Pro and close to 6x that of the M1 chip.)

    And with the M1 Max you get automatic 32GB RAM.

    I write this now on a MacBook Pro 2018 i7 1TB. I have taken the 1TB SSD not because I need the space, but as it was in the past the smallest SDD in the Apple products hadn't the same speed as the bigger ones. So I decided also here to take the faster SSD.

    We only have then to wait until Logos is nativ on the new Apple chips.

    That’s a great point about the speed on the processor between the Pro and Max. I unfortunately couldn’t jump to the Max chip. Thanks to the homeschool educator discount I ended up with the highest Pro chip and 32gb of Ram. If it wasn’t for that discount I’d have only gotten the Ram, but the discount made it only $90 more after tax.

    That's what I did. There's a jump on processors 13">14". Then another big jump with the 16". I don't need 1TB, so the 'sweet spot', power vs money was the 14"/500GB and a discount off the Apple price.

    Right now, it's only running Accordance, so all the lookups/searches are pretty instant ... a lot like Bibleworks was.

    I'd assume for those using Logos for 'work', the Max would be a good 8yr investment (as Logos adds more this/that, maybe resources/searches).
