How to make a reading plan for Hebrew DSS sectarian manuscripts

Hi, I want to make a reading plan for my bible study group; we are planning to read through the Dead Sea Scrolls Sectarian manuscripts in Hebrew/Aramaic this next year (or more if needed).

We wanted to schedule n number of verses per day but Logos seems not able to understand how "verses" are set up in these documents. When I select 1 verse per day, it gives me hundreds of verses on 1 day. We'd rather get it down to like 10 verses or so as this is in conjunction with our other study plans.

I tried to base it on finish date to tweak things that is also not working so well.

For well preserved sections. Then on days when it's in highly corrupted sections we have like this:

I realize I'll probably end up having to make multiple reading plans to deal with this "highly corrupted scrolls" verses "intact scrolls" issue so our reading level will be about the same amount of time daily. I have 2 questions:

1-the first issue I described: is there a way to make logos understand "verse" = "sentence" or "a single line" something like this so I can try to make the workload similar form day to day?

2-the 2nd issue: Are there any query-able attributes in the QSM database which mark sections based on how intact / restored they are? We aren't really interested in studying the sections like the 2nd pic I shared where there is 1 word preserved per sentence/column from the scroll?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

It seems Logos is unable to break up any of the DSS sectarian documents.

For example, here I have made a reading plan for 985 days.

Observe in the pic all of document CD is scheduled for 1 day, then the next day has no reading. Same thing happens with all of the documents, Logos tries to schedule an entire document for a day then gives a rest from any reading the next day. See Yellow arrows to empty days bellow:

It means that your number of sessions is excessive. Try 700 and scroll through the plan. If there are any breaks, decrease the number of sessions. If there are multiple readings per day, then increase the number of sessions. Repeat as necessary.

Not sure how you did that, as that is not even available for bibles. If the Plan is similar to the screenshot in your next post, the number of sessions is the best way to handle the "articles" that Logos will use for readings.

If you have "All Passages" in the Plan then you can generate multiple reading plans to deal with the different articles/verses that you found. You could then combine them using a Custom Reading Plan .

Yes I had started with a much smaller number but what happens is it gets worse, the reading plan piles up more than one document on a single day. For example, if I set 365 sessions then 1 day has the entire Community Document + 1QS. I assumed this is due to the sheer amount of material so I started expanding our plan to be multi-year but as you see Logos doesn't understand how to segment each Dead Sea Scroll sectarian document. No matter how many sessions I enter, the least reading I can get it down to for a day is 1 entire document.

Yes this was what I thought I would need to do, but as it stands now this is not a solution since I can't get logos to even break up 1 Sectarian document into multiple reading sessions so I was thinking even making a smaller plan dealing with just 1 document won't work. I'm willing to try but now I realize I don't know how to reference just 1 document in the QSM collection. How does one do this?

Say I want to make a reading plan for "CD" and a separate plan for "1QS" how can these be referenced?

The only idea I had was to base it on page numbers in the original book, but the "show page numbers" is not available for QSM as it is with other texts.

I just wanted to respond to your statement that a single verse a day is not available on bible reading plans... my current plan reading the Tanakh yearly has the aramaic portions as 1 verse per day so it is possible to do this; I think maybe though I misunderstood what you meant.

This appears to be a limitation of the datatype. Not having the resource, I'm unable to provide further advice.

OK this seems true. How does one build it manually? Do you mean to cut and paste sections or something?

Our study group's plan was just 10 "verses" a day. So would you recommend creating "clippings" each of 10 verses then add one clipping per day?

So I would need to make 365 clippings for the next year. Is this right?

Session names are not very meaningful but it works.

I've decided this is just too tedious to build the reading plan this way. So my plan is instead, I will buy the English translation of the Sectarian manuscripts (as will those in my study group), then I'll build a reading plan of the translations, then each day we can see what we're supposed to read from this and just switch to the Hebrew manually.

Ashame that resource was on sale a while back and not now haha. Still I think the $17 is worth it; I'm largely concerned about mistakes I will certainly make in the pain-staking process of building the reading list for the QSM.

Update, so i bought the english translation and made our reading plan using that(others in the group were also forced to get this book). Then I generated a reading plan for the English translation. Opening the QSM Hebrew/Aramaic originals in a synced pane works on the desktop version of Logos ; so as we scroll our assigned reading in English it syncs the Hebrew DSS sectarian materials nicely!

Caveat; it does NOT work in the mobile app. That is the Hebrew version will not sync (scroll) with the English translation even though linked. It DOES work in the web app though. It's jsut too bad, one of our team members has an older tab on which the webapp doesn't play nicely.

I'm not sure if i should report the sync propblem as a bug in the mobile app because I've been trying (and some others in the community) for years to get Logos to make highlighting/note annotation work properly for Hebrew on any platform which it still does not; so if we can't get notes to even highlight correctly for All Morpho tagged Hebrew bibles then I really doubt an even smaller user base who wants to read DSS sectarian scrolling with English will get fixed.

It's always good to report a struggle to the developer. They may not have a near-term solution, but can be used when they're next looking at resource sync'ing (currently they have only one, resources sometimes go blank when a sync doesn't apply, and for a religious app, OT vs NT is always going to be an issue).

Reporting-wise, they see their own in-app reporting more than their forum (mobile).
