1. Installed Logos 4 Mac
2. Signed in
3. I opened the software it immediately crashes. Program quit.

Michael:
Just so I am clear on when exactly the program crashes. Does it crash on the sign-in screen, does it crash while it is downloading, or does it crash when it tries to open the HomePage?
It signs in, opens the home page and then immediately crashes. I have tried removing the layouts.db file and that didn't work.
Removing layouts.db shouldn't be considered a general solution to crashes--I only recommend trying it when directed to do so by someone from Logos.
Have you used any previous versions of the alpha? If so, did you recently purchase any books?
I installed Alpha a long time ago on one computer, probably 3 or 4 months ago. It was so early it didn't run well so I removed it. Since then I've been running Logos 4 in Windows through VMWare. My most recent book purchase was quite a while ago.
that does remind me that alpha opened for a little while because I noticed none of my books were present.
For what it's worth I've been having the same problem for over a week. Will it even automatically update with A18 comes out or will I have to scrap it totally?
At worst you will need to manually download the new version and copy it over the old application file. There SHOULD be no reason to need to re-index and download all your resources.

Michael,
It looks like you're having some serious installation issues. I can see from your console logs that other applications are having trouble as well.
I would suggest deleting your /Users/mwalton82/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/aonhd4fk.m4c/ResourceManager/ResourceManager.db and restarting. This will require you to redownload all your resources, but it should also recreate the missing navigation indexes that you don't have.
NOTE: This is not a general solution for fixing crashes in Logos 4 Mac. Please do not try this unless a Logos representative has specifically given you these instructions. This will force you to re-download all of your resources and in most cases will not solve a crashing problem in the application.
Scott, if you will post your logs, we can take a look at what is going on an get you up and running again.
Here you go thanks for the help.

Console Messages has a Logos 4 exception:
4/15/10 8:46:17 AM [0x0-0x211211].com.logos.Logos_Bible_Software_4[2827] Unhandled Exception: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: assertion "pTitle->CountAllParagraphEnds() || (m_pParaList->GetStyle() & paralistCountLastParagraphEnd) == 0" failed: file "Article.cpp", line 367
Looks like Logos 4 relaunched following day - overwrote Logos4.log and Indexer.log files.
Noticed odd finder and Mail messages along with Quick Look memory issues - wonder about computer memory ?
Observation: Activity Monitor is an Apple Utility - can launch upon login - dock icon can show memory usage - little or no green (free) indicator of need for more memory, fewer applications open and/or restart needed.
Possibility: make free appointment with Mac Genius at an Apple Store - can take Mac to Genius to show/discuss memory issues and options.
Keep Smiling [:)]
Yeah I tried deleting the whole thing and reinstalling it so that is probably why the files were overwritten--I forgot about that. I live overseas in a remote area so taking it to the Mac Genius isn't an option. It is a very new Mac Book Pro so I don't think it is a memory issue. I guess I'll just wait till 18 comes out.
The assertion failure that KSFJ mentions should be fixed in A18.
Memory issue can happen when applications want more than physically installed - Activity Monitor Utility can show current memory usage.
Earlier this year, my memory usage typically looked like:
Learned launching application(s) could cause green (free) to disappear (spinning beach ball while memory paged in and out). Comfortably could run Logos 4 Alpha for Mac OR Logos 4 Beta in Windows Virtual Machine.
After doubling memory, can now run Logos 4 Alpha Mac and Beta PC at same time with memory available for more applications:
By the way, with 8 GB of memory, found enabling 64 bit kernel in Snow Leopard = improved response.
On my computer there is a slight dip but not the dramatic fallout you are talking about. There is still plenty of memory available. It just starts up and then nothing--just shuts down. It was working almost flawlessly before I downloaded A17. Unfortunately I hadn't backup up the system in a while or I'd use Time Machine to go back to A16.
