Will Barnes' Notes on the Old and New Testaments(14 vols) ever see the light of day in Logos? Currently the $30 have it on community pricing, why not have a look and help push Barnes into production?

Thanks

Well, if it is 30 USD, it sounds much better then the initial 90 USD. I am going to see it.
Ted
Perhaps you could persuade George our friend to say something nice about this set even if he is not going to place a bid. Ted
Good idea, George, where are you?

Sure ! It'll be cheap. You will need to decide whether that is only cheap in price or cheap in quality as well.
...maybe it was not so good idea to call George here [:)]

I agree with you, we may just have to teach George how to be more European in his outlook[:D]
I have my Community Pricing bid in for $40. It's just that I have this in almost every other format available. I can't spend $90 to have an 8th set when there are so many other goodies in Pre-pub that nobody else offers.
If everyone upped their bid by $10-15, think this will go anywhere?

I don't think it will make a difference if people who have already bid $30 or above up their bids, because they are already counted as being willing to pay at least $30 for it and upping their bid won't raise that dot at $30 any further. It's the people below $30 who can make a difference. $30 seems to be the sweet spot where it's going to go over the top soonest.
Rosie,
You asked in another thread WHY you should buy this resource. I'm not the guy to answer the question because I really have nothing vested in Barnes, beyond that his work is moderately well known, it's a massive set and because a great many people early on kept asking for it.
But it has stalled so long in CP that I view it as nearly a lost cause. IMHO it either needs to be mercifully terminated (then again It doesnt' cost anything but reputation points to leave it there) or it needs to be pushed over the top.
So here's the challenge. Would an ardent Barnes supporter take up the cause? Would you post your very best reasons why all of us should invest in Barnes and push it over the top?

I don't know why some of you people are so keen to 'kill' this one. Obviously a lot of people want it. For months it languished at about 30%, but recently, with the increased exposure it has increased to almost 60%. You obviously don't want Barnes - that's fine, but a lot of others do.

You misunderstand me Alex. My bid is in, at max. But at some point terminating the offer surely becomes an option since Barnes has "languished" on the CP page for just about as long as CP has been in existence. As I said, it doesn't cost anything to keep it there, but just how long should it remain with the sale unmet?
There are enough bidders in such that if everyone raised their bid to $45.00 it would be at 111%. ($40.00 would be at 99%). Given what has happened recently, I would not be surprised that it will eventually close at $30 or $35.
Would an ardent Barnes supporter take up the cause?
I agree that this is what is needed, no one has ever posted a compelling reason why we should want Barnes' Notes in Logos. The only reasons that I have seen are that it covers the whole Bible and its available in other packages...
I'm saving my $30+ for something I'd benefit from owning.
Everybody, just bid $30 or more on Barnes and Notes, and then you could back out after it's already almost completed in production. That way the rest of us could get it that want it [;)]
I do like and want Barnes' Notes , but this, even though legal and within the rules, sounds deceptive and non-productive. I have ordered books and canceled them later - but only after my finances or needs have changed. Never intentionally.
Before doing this, I would spend time in prayer asking God if this is really what he would want a member of His church doing.
I do like and want Barnes' Notes , but this, even though legal and within the rules, sounds deceptive and non-productive.
Of course I was kidding. Though it is deceptive, it really isn't "non-productive," it would be productive for all those that could use it's resource in logos [:D] Rahab was deceptive for the glory of God, as well as many others [;)]
You could just go ahead and bid $75 and ask God to convict you before it ships, if you are in the wrong...[6]
My bid has been at $75 for a while. It would be cheaper for my household budget to drop my bid to $35 and convince my wife to also bid $35 in her account., but she is not likely to be sold on that idea.

Taking it as a joke, as you asked.
But the point is we are telling Logos that we are prepaired to stand behind the production costs, so please go ahead and make it for us. Seems we need to try and honour that, unless something important has changed.
I am encouraged by the progress of late on this and believe it will go over the top before too long simply because enough people want it.
I have really benefited from this set the last few years. My bid is at $90.00 now but I know I will not have to pay this at the end.
Well, I am not an ardent Barnes supporter, although I certainly wish this set would make it into production. I've been in for $90 for since last year. I have this set in hardcopy and pull it out fairly regularly, but the problem is that my copy has the smallest font imaginable. I have to use a magnifying glass to read some of it. Therefore, I would love to replace it with Logos simply so I could enlarge the font in order to read it! [;)]
68% aint bad. Come on baby!

If only it were!
Just to resurrect this fine Community Pricing resource now that 4.0c is out! We have had this in PBB for a long time, let's get it in logos 4 format!

Hey! it's at 70 percent!
Where do you keep getting these figures from, Shawn? All my computers show 60%.
Alex.

Yup, it's 60%. I think Shawn was misreading the chart. The location of the labels on the left might be a bit confusing, but the horizontal lines represent 20% increments.
We have to get this resource over the top! It's such a good deal!
Sorry, the increments are so confusing at a glance.
Another plug for this great commentary.
I placed my bid a long time ago.
This is such a great deal as a resource, and it's popular given the PBB version that floats around.....come on everyone, we have to get this one under contract!
PPPPLLLLLLEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSEEEEEEEEEE???????

For anyone is interested, Barnes notes is available at Studylight.org and at Christian Classics Ethereal Library.
For anyone is interested, Barnes notes is available at ...
But we are on the Logos forums, and we are customers of Logos. What we really want, is the resource in Logos Bible Software format, and at an acceptable price, and soon ...
Amen! Also it's so great Barnes is on Community Pricing. I was disappointed when after waiting so long they listed Gill as a Pre Pub. I was hoping it would be CP.
Can everyone interested in barns notes email logos and ask them to do a flyer on barns notes to get it published, give it some air time so we can all start using it ?
Agreed[Y].
But the public domain ones are NT only... the Logos one on Community Pricing will include both OT and NT, correct?
Yes!
In fact, I only placed my order for Barnes because I heard the commentary on the Old Testament is better than the commentary on the New Testament.
We have over 2500 views on this barns notes post alone, surely if everyone who viewed made a small bid it will make it into production soon !! Come on everyone if you view a post on barns notes place a bid !
Garry
Hey, it's gone up 4%!
Perhaps by the end of the year ....

It's around 70% now... consider increasing your bid to $50... or put in a bid for $50 if you haven't placed on yet.... I believe once it crosses the line it will drop lower than it's original crossing price point.
Just posting a link so no one has to go back a page or two to find it:
Way back on April 15 I asked the question

No ardent Barnes supporter would do it. So I did (See Barnes Raising). Now we shall see if Barnes can take the publicity. [:p]
