Mobile App - A note indicator does not appear in the text of a verse in the Mobile app, but it does
A note indicator does not appear in the text of a verse in the Mobile app, but it does in the Desktop app.
This issue is very frustrating and a time-waster, as I highlighted text while studying in the Mobile app, only to later discover that I had already recorded a note and a highlight on the same text in the Desktop app at a previous time.
The Mobile app shows other notes and highlights with no problem.
Explanation? Resolution?
Thanks,
Chuck

I assume that you have verified what notebook the note is in and that that notebook is requested under visual filters.

The Mobile app shows other notes and highlights with no problem.
Which version of the mobile app and on which platform?
And has the resource been downloaded to your device? There used to be an issue with highlights not being shown on resources that were being accesses from the cloud but I thought that was fixed some time ago.

On the mobile app, you can't specify different notebooks - notes display is either enabled or not

iOS version 9.10.0 (0039)
The resource is the NKJV, and yes, it is downloaded to the device (and has been for a long time).
By the way, interestingly, when I open my notebook in the mobile app, the note is there, but still no note indicator and highlight in the Bible text.
Thanks,
Chuck

Delete the resource, kill the app, open the app, download the resource, open the resource.
All those steps just taken; the problem still exists.

Do you see other notes and highlights in the same Bible?
I know you mentioned above you could see other notes and highlights, but just trying to clarify whether you are seeing them in this particular resource?

Yes, I have numerous other notes and highlights in this particular resource.

Is it possible that the note / highlight you are seeing on the desktop was created in another resource and showing in this one using the “corresponding highlight” capability?
If so, what that not being supported on mobile, it would explain what you are seeing
If that doesn’t fit, then I’m afraid I’m out of ideas and would suggest contacting customer services

To make sure that the issue is not due to the NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS (CORRESPONDING) setting, I investigated this setting; it was turned on. Therefore, I turned it off and confirmed that the note still appears and is indeed in my NKJV resource.
Interestingly, though, I pulled up the note in my Notebook in the iOS app and noticed that something looks odd. With each of the anchors, the first two characters are missing from the anchor text:
The first two anchors should begin with the word "all," and the third anchor should begin with the word "while."
Might the problem somehow be related to this?
Thanks,
Chuck

That does look strange - presumably other highlights in that resource do not have the same issue?
It might be worth trying to remove the resource from the device and then see if the highlight appears before downloading it again.
Otherwise, I would contact customer services and see if they can advise

I agree, but We walked through that step above.
I wasn't sure we had tried checking the highlight while the resource was not downloaded.

For clarification: Didn't you say that highlights dont appear unless the resource is downloaded? Just checking, I don't remember. That used to be the case - but was fixed sometime ago.
Above, I was trying to check if that bug had crept back in

Update:
- I killed the app
- Re-opened the app
- Removed the downloaded resource
- Killed the app
- Re-opened the app (it opened to my usual "Main" layout containing 6 panels, one of which is the resource with the problem)
- It continued to display other notes and highlights but not the note and highlight in question
- Evidently, the app automatically re-downloaded the resource because it showed downloaded when I checked it
- Therefore, I removed the downloaded resource again
- I also closed all panels
- Then, I killed the app again
- Re-opened the app
- Opened only the single resource that was giving the problem
- The note and highlight then displayed as well as other notes and highlights!
- I then opened my "Main" 6-panel layout with the note and highlight still visible.
- At some point, the resource was automatically downloaded again, but the note and highlight continue to display.
- Also, all the characters in the text of the Anchors are now shown.
- So, what seemed to clear the log jam was closing all panels, removing the resource, and opening only the single resource before opening my "Main" 6-panel layout.
Any further thoughts or explanations as to why this worked are welcome.
Thanks Much,
Chuck

Hi Chuck
Any further thoughts or explanations as to why this worked are welcome.
Similarly to JT, I can't explain why things are working now - or why the sequence of steps you took resolved it - but I'm glad it's sorted.

So it’s working now, right?
I had this problem just today and found out that, on my iOS device, the icon for Notes was turned off. I didn’t know you could turn icon on for off. Could that be the problem that you had? Could it be that you had the icon turned off? If the icon is turned off then you will not see the icon next to the passage which you created a note. If that’s the issue, I can try to explain more and where to fix it so that you see the icon and therefore you can see the note.

Yes, it works now. No, it wasn't a simple matter of the icon being turned off.

I don’t really have anything constructive to say except that the app is prone to getting corrupted which is why I suggest users be judicious in the number of downloaded resources.
I use the android phone app lots.... and I have noticed different things happening and I have come to thing that the phone app gets "overloaded" or "overwhelmed" sometimes, especially when I seem to just keep on adding resources and such. When things don't act right, I just clear everything out, delete the app, reboot and start over. It may be overkill.... but that seems to clear up the problems I've seen. But to it's credit.... I don't have to do this very often.
I think the app works very well... but like anything... it has it's limits. [8-|]
