Logos Icons displayed on system tray for no reason

Member Posts: 1,546 ✭✭✭

Logos 9.11 RC 1 (9.11.0.0018); Windows 11 (with 11th Generation i7 and Intel Iris Xe Graphics)

When I launch Logos, a logos Icon is displayed in the system tray as if it is indexing.  They don't go away, even if I close Logos, unless I hover over them, then they disappear. Task Manger confirms that no Logos processes are running after I close Logos and the icons are still displayed.

If they disappear when you hover it is more of a Windows icon cache problem than a Logos problem. Open regedit on your PC and go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

    Delete IconStreams and PastIconsStream.

Reboot. Or a logoff and logon should do it.

This is typical in Windows when the application crashes. The icon in this case is for the indexer. Please capture and upload log files.

    Hi Andrew,

This problem occurred after the crash reported at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/205327.aspx.  Logs were uploaded to that report for that problem.  I thought this problem was an unrelated issue, but apparently it isn't.

The logs attached below were captured after I:

    1. Launched Logos
    2. Replicated the crash reported at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/205327.aspx
    3. Re-launched Logos, which resulted in two icons in the tray as reported above.
    4. I closed Logos and then captured the logs attached below.

    2677.Dual Logos Icons in Tray.zip

    NOTE:

After the original crash report, and before I did this test, I purchased some resources.  They downloaded okay, and are in my library, but Logos did not automatically index as it usually does.

How can I force Logos to index these new books without having to run the full resource index? (I'm guessing I need to delete a couple files, but I don't know which ones where.)

    Thank you for your help.

The reindex command should help here:

  • Member Posts: 1,546 ✭✭✭

Thank you, Graham, but that didn't work.  I tried reindexing both new and existing resources and all that happens is the Logos icon appears in the Windows system tray, but Logos does nothing.

The other thread reported a problem with the application crashing. The problem in this thread happens because the indexer (a separate program) is crashing. The two problems are unrelated.

This error looks like you have a problem with your installation or system. You may be able to fix the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the application. If that doesn't work, you'll probably want to contact support.

OUCH!  I have a LOT of resources and a TON of documents (Notes, Clippings, …)

Would waiting for the next beta release install possibly fix it?

  • Member, Community Manager, Logos Employee Posts: 5,498

It might. Or you could try manually installing the current beta on top of your current installation.

I tried "Rebuild Index" and that didn't work.

I was hoping I could delete files somewhere under the Logos folder that would remove the cause of the problem and start a fresh reindex that would rebuild the files/indexes. (This method worked nicely for other types of problems in the past.  Just hoping …)

Thank you, Andrew.  I'll try that.

Deleting the LibraryIndex and BibleIndex folders will rebuild the indexes from scratch (the Rebuild command assumes that its internal list of resources is correct).

Thank you, Dave.  That's what I was looking for, but it didn't work.

    After deleting the folders,

    • I launched Logos and the Logos logo flashed on then off in the system tray.
    • I checked Task Manager and there was no Logos indexing.
    • I checked for the deleted folders and found Logos did re-create the folders (with their .db and .db-shm and .db-wal files)
    • I then I tried "Rebuild index" again (hoping the newly created folders would make a difference), but that didn't work either.

    Logs from this attempt:

    0243.Failed Reindex.zip

I'm hoping that an update install of the application will fix the problem, so my current plan is to remain on the Beta Channel through Monday (hoping that because of several reports of problems with RC1 that an RC2 will be released soon).  If by Tuesday there is no RC2, I'll change to the Stable Channel to pick up and install the newly released production version 9.11. After installing that, I'll switch back to the Beta Channel.

If none of that works (or when I have time), I'll byte the bullet and do a fresh install of everything.  I've observed that over time, a beta instance can get a bit messed up and it's been a while since I did a clean beta install.  I'm just not ready to do it this week.

There are issues with the system files (dll), one of which affects the Indexer. They should be fixed via a manual installation of the next update.

If by Tuesday there is no RC2, I'll change to the Stable Channel to pick up and install the newly released production version 9.11

That will be the same version RC1, so you won't get an update until there is a service release (SR-1). Hopefully, there will be an RC2..

Well, I installed the RC2 released today, but this problem still exists.  Looks like the problem is in a corrupted data file, not the app.  Unless someone has another suggestion, I'll be reinstalling from scratch soon.

Did this work for you? Curious since I'm having problems with my Verbum installation indexing. The icon appears briefly in the tray but it doesn't actually index. When I hover over the icon it disappears. I tried to rebuild the index, it seems to have deleted the old index without building a new one so I couldn't search anything in my library. I reinstalled Verbum and it still won't index and thus won't search anything.

Hi Kiyah. I'm about to post an update - the problem still exists, now in the 9.11 update in the production/stable version too!

The saga continues - am I the only user with this problem?

    Monday evening I:

    • Uninstalled Beta version Logos 9.11 RC 2; 9.11.0.0019
    • Deleted folder C:\Users\timhe\AppData\Local\Logos
    • Installed production/stable version Logos 9.10; 9.10.0.0017
    • Everything worked well.

    Today

    • I allowed the production/stable update to Logos 9.11; 9.11.0.0019

I now have the same problem reported above.

Same. My main Logos installation works fine (I have the update channel set to manual so it's still on 9.10). I downloaded a new resource in my Verbum installation (9.11) and noticed it didn't index. I restarted Verbum and it still didn't index. I typed 'rebuild bible index' in the command box. Nothing. I typed 'rebuild index' in the command box. It deleted my old index and didn't rebuild a new one. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Verbum. I didn't index the library and I can search nothing.

Thanks Andrew. Glad you were able to recreate this. I couldn't upload my logs because I had uninstalled Verbum again and haven't reinstalled it yet.

This was fixed in 9.11 SR-1, those on the Beta channel will have to wait until we ship 9.12 Beta 1 to get the fix. If you don't want to wait you can download the installer or change your update channel to stable.

Your welcome.  Glad I can help.  Thanks for the quick turnaround on the fix.

  • Member Posts: 1,546 ✭✭✭

Is the fix for this in 9.12 Beta 1 (9.12.0.0002)?  It's not in the Release Notes and I don't want to go back to beta without it.

  • Member, Community Manager, Logos Employee Posts: 5,498

Yes, 9.12 Beta 1 includes the fixes in 9.11 SR-1.
