Making Cross-references

Is there a way to create one's own "cross-references"?

As I am reading, can I put a "marker" that I can then link to a spot in another resources? I am guessing this would be one of the point of multiple edit points. But, having a note file as an intermediary is cumbersome.

Any Ideas?

Only way to do it that I know of, aside from making a PBB, but that would be even more work.

It might seem that way but it is easy to create an attachment points to a specific spot (selected text) in another resource without going the logosres route.

The only 'marker' you can create is a Label but it can't be used to jump to another resource as it can only display information e.g. logosres or datatype reference.

I hope that one day they will implement a way for us to create our own direct hyperlinks in resources.

Notes can have multiple attachment points which allows cross-references to be named or classified.

This is such an old post, but it seems to me that there should be a better and quicker way to create one's own cross-references. Forgive me for coming from the BibleWorks world, but this is one feature that I really miss. Imagine this possibility:

Say I do any search on the biblical text in Logos (incredible flexibility here). Logos lists the occurrences, then gives me the choice of selecting, deselecting, or inverting choices to include in the cross references. I can select all or any that I want.

Then I export them to the cross-reference file. One single command and every reference that I have chosen is "cross-linked."

Then there is a cross-reference panel or window that automatically and instantly shows all the appropriate cross-references whenever I hover over any verse in the entire Bible that I have cross-linked. As I read through the biblical text, I see the full text of all my cross references. It is fast and easy. It's a wonderful feature that Logos could implement.

Has any progress been made toward creating this feature [to add personal cross references to a single verse], or a similar function? Specifically, to link one verse to multiple verses that address the same event, & then display 'my cross references' of verses linked to that one verse in a report? This function would allow an 'event' mentioned in a Revelation verse to be linked to multiple chap/vs references that address the same event?

One can make passage lists for a reference with a merged base of:

passage list saved from the Cross-Reference section of a Passage Guide; in practice you would add the references from the Cross-reference resources listed in the top of the Cross-Reference section. For this proof of concept, I did not.
passage list saved from the Important Passages section of a Passage Guide
any other passages you wish to glean, e.g. Event (narration and reference) from the Biblical Events section of the Passage Guide

To this, one may add manually other references you deem of interest. It may be displayed in either reference or full text mode. This example has not been sorted into canonical order.

Cross references are not the same as passage lists, at least not in theory. If I am reading Deuteronomy 30:20 which contains the phrase "he is your life," I might think of Colossians 3:4 which contains the phrase "Christ who is your life." Later when I come across the phrase in Colossians or Proverbs 4:13 or James 4:14, I will not remember the other references unless it is marked in the text. A passage list will not help me at that point unless I remember having made it.

So I now manually add the references to notes as the example shows. I use a green tag to mark the verses. There should be an easier way.

Can you elaborate? I think of cross-references, passages lists, event references, etc. as simply pairs of references with an (implied) relationship between the references. What you describe is closer to what I think of as a topical index (or concordance in the Rennaissance sense)

Multiple cross-references to one verse as Gary described is what I'm interested in creating in Logos. Working with MS Excel, I'm gathering all the NT & OT cross-references associated with an event in Revelation by chapter, verse & each verse has been also assigned a category(s). Then I can automatically generate a report listing those verses by Revelation chapter, by NT book, or by category from the approx 800 verses I've added to date. This is when it occurred to me that Logos surely has a feature with similar functionality. However, I'm not as familiar with Logos 9, as I am with Excel. In the insert below, I'm using an excel pivot table to show the 800+ verses by Revelation chapters which collapses to show the events in that chapter, & then collapses again to show the cross-references by NT book chapter/verse [for the verses added to date]. Am I correct in my conclusion, that in your experience, Logos does NOT have a similar functionality?

Passage lists do not show up in the biblical text. They are not integrated into the text, so far as I can tell. I want to see all the textual links that I have previously made as I read through the Bible, or as I am working on a passage.

Forgive me for this example from the now defunct BibleWorks. I could send the selected results of a search (first panel below) to my personally created cross-reference database (third panel) which I named "Gary's Cross-Refs." Then I could cross-link some or all of the entries. Then simply by panning the cursor over the biblical text (second panel), all my X-Refs of any given verse would instantly appear.

Any list of cross-references could be added to or edited. As I worked through the biblical text, parallels that I had discovered elsewhere in the text, months or years before, would instantly appear in my X-Ref database. I didn't have to remember that a verse might be in a Passage List that I may have made months before. I think this is very important when dealing with the meta-narrative of Scripture. These are links that are not simply in a Treasury of Scripture Knowledge or the standard ESV cross-references.

As I mentioned before, I can make the links and mark the verses with an icon in Logos 10 (as I did with Deut 30:20; Pro 4:13; Col 3:4; and James 4:14), but it is a lot more work.

Thanks for the explanation. I now know what you want - it is also closely related to something I want although I describe it quite differently - the ability to data-mine intertextual relationships
